If you get in a situation like you describe, you just call and get a new one. They should give it to you w/o charge. I can't recall the verbage, but it's something like if you get those types of things from previous owners, then you have 30 or 60 days to change it w/o charge.
For the record, those bill collectors will just keep calling, so forego the grief, and just change your digits.

yeah, they will keep calling forever...it is the only connection they have to the person that is owing, so they won't let up
We have one that kept calling our house phone before we switched it out....some lady named bertha owed tons ofmoney to someone....and every now and then someone obviously fat and ghetto would call and ask for bertha....I fucked with them one time and said she was in the shower with Frank...the dude freaked out and said he was coming over, i would imagine someone had a rude awakening that day
