I was just watching the news and everyday there are more priests having charges brought forth on them, or some priest that says he fondled a kid like 20 years ago.
What happened to the days when a priest were the purest humans on the planet?

That's what I've always wondered to. That's pretty fucked up. I suppose that in churches, there's always young alter boys around, but not really many young girls.

Funny thing is the media only goes after catholics you never see them going after reverends, rabbi's and so on I am sure if you play the numbers its about the same acorss the board.

In every group you will get your share of bad ones, and those bad ones ruin the reputation of the rest of the group.

A significant % of priests have always been that way. Most I'm sure are not but it's certainly not a new thing. We just get to hear about it these days is the biggest difference.

I am sure the abuse has been going on for just about as long as the church. The only diffrence is that now we are hearing about it. The church was too powerful to cross and so if you managed the courage to say anything in the first place then they had the power to cover it up.

Perhaps the reason it is most often boys is because priests tend to have more access to boys. Think about it: alter boys..etc

In my own mind it has a lot to do with the chastity vow. It you deny humans, men in particular, their one basic instinct some of them will obsess about it and then snap. Now, you have already made it a sin for them to have sex with adults so having sex with a child isn't (in the twisted mind) any worse then having with an adult. The end result is the same, you have broken your vow.

Let them get laid every now and then and maybe they wouldn't go insane trying to supress it.

This has always been my view...you take a man who and deprive him of basic human drives like sex and add to that the vow of poverty...hmmm, priests can't have sex or money....that's got to lead to some pent up frustrations...but I often wonder, why does the Pope appear wealthy (well, we know th Catholic Church has money) so why should priests have to live without? I am by no means condoning the horrible damage these predators do to children, but always wonder what makes someone deviate in such a way....

The catholic backlash is more about the covering up of these crimes rather than the crimes...in the past, stuff like this was covered up and priests were simply transferred.......

In the past, I have received a lot of hatemail for my anti-catholic leanings and rhetoric (I never realized so mny adult webmasters had Catholic leanings) but these coverups for some reason seem to bother me more than the crimes...I find it offensive that the Catholic church would allow these children to be victimized and then victimized again when the priest was simply transferred and essentailly got off scot free........

The problem with the Catholic Church is the way it's powers were set up oh so long ago.

If you go to most protestant churches the priests on up to the pope are not considered infallible.

We protestants might hold high regard for a preacher...but we would never kneel and kiss the rings of any leaders in our churches.

One man who was molested by the priest in Boston told how he looked upon this priest as if he were God himself...and one day he and his friend who was being molested as well told his mother that the priest had touched him...the man watched as the mother slapped the shit out of the boy and told him to never speak of the father that way again...he knew right then he would never be able to tell.

I come from a Catholic family...both sides...however it is only my immediate family (mother, father 2 brothers and 1 sister) who is not Catholic....so in my 35 years I've experienced both sides of this issue...and after speaking to my father and mother many nights regarding why they left Catholocism I can see why too.

There are bad cases where people get snookered by bad preachers and sure there are cases where youth counselors have molested children in the protestant realm...however the priesthood tho' not necessarily designed for this in the beginning became a safe haven for homosexuals and pedophiles because of the way the Church set it up.

Priests were not always barred from marrying in the past, I think this has had alot to do with the troubles the church is experiencing now...not because of lack of sex or female companionship....but it created a safe haven for those dealing with sexual issues from homosexuality to pedophilia...it gave them a place to hide from the rest of the world.

Anyway...you are correct tho' that much bad has been done in the name of religion....for an immediate example of that today all we have to do is take a look at the mideast.

Child molesters can be found usually in "jobs" that include activities to do with children. Teachers, Coaches, Day Care Workers, Church Leaders. Boy Scout Leaders, Girl Scouts,, ect ect. These sick ass abusers set out to find these "trusted" jobs. As Parents, My Husband and I take a big leading role in our childrens lives. I never take anything for granted. This is complete shit. First off, nobody is running around begging horny men to become priests. That'd be like begging a nun to star in your next gang bang video. It doesn't work, I have tried.

To become a priest you have to study, and study, and study, for many years. You must give up much MORE then sex. This may sound weird to most of you, but sex ain't everything. So to become a priest you must be extremely devoted and extremely willing to work hard, and believe in what you work for. These people are priests to help people, to devote their life to God. They care about their people and others in need, not about the money in their pocket. Money and women (wives, sex, whatever) are seen as something that takes away from the devotion to God, especially children. Think about it, how willing would a father or wife be to get up at 3 AM on a regular basis to help people in need.

Same reason I don't want kids or a woman, they take too much time.

Lately we've seen some bad eggs. Don't you all find it a little odd that they all decide to come out NOW? I'm not defending the offenders by any means, but things aren't always what they appear.
