This has always been my view...you take a man who and deprive him of basic human drives like sex and add to that the vow of poverty...hmmm, priests can't have sex or money....that's got to lead to some pent up frustrations...but I often wonder, why does the Pope appear wealthy (well, we know th Catholic Church has money) so why should priests have to live without? I am by no means condoning the horrible damage these predators do to children, but always wonder what makes someone deviate in such a way....
The catholic backlash is more about the covering up of these crimes rather than the crimes...in the past, stuff like this was covered up and priests were simply transferred.......
In the past, I have received a lot of hatemail for my anti-catholic leanings and rhetoric (I never realized so mny adult webmasters had Catholic leanings) but these coverups for some reason seem to bother me more than the crimes...I find it offensive that the Catholic church would allow these children to be victimized and then victimized again when the priest was simply transferred and essentailly got off scot free........
