Impeachment is in the Air: New Polls Show Majority Favors Impeachment
How many full page newspaper ads and radio spots will appear depends entirely on the generous support and contributions from people who believe passionately that impeachment is absolutely critical to maintaining the integrity of the Constitution. Please click here to donate to help the newspaper ads and radio spots run as many times as possible.
The impeachment movement has hit the new year running. If you consider the following facts, it's clear that the issue of impeachment has decisively taken off: 1) The People's Impeachment Lobby is a huge success. Members of Congress received more than 70,000 letters urging impeachment. 2) A new Zogby poll will be released tomorrow showing that by a 52% to 43% margin, Americans believe that Congress should consider impeaching George W. Bush if he wiretapped the people of this country without court approval (and everyone knows and Bush has admitted that he ordered just such huge secret spying operation.) The poll, with a plus or minus margin of error of 2.9%, shows that 66% of Democrats, 59% of independents, and 23% of Republicans support impeachment for wiretapping. Majorities favored impeachment across the country: the East (54%), South (53%), and West (52%), Central states (50%). The significance of this poll can be seen by way of comparison with public attitudes in the months before the impeachment of Clinton. In August and September 1998, sixteen major polls found that only 36% supported hearings to impeach Clinton. 3) Even Republican Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, Arlen Specter, who will be convening hearings next month on Bush?s authorization of secret electronic surveillance of Americans, said that if lawmakers find Bush violated the law regarding wiretapping (remember Richard Nixon here), then ?impeachment is a remedy. After impeachment you could have a criminal prosecution." 4) There are now eight members of Congress including John Conyers, the ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, who have put their name to a bill calling for a special committee to investigate impeachable crimes by the Bush Administration. 5) Newspaper Ads in the New York Times and other papers will be published again, as well as radio spots in the next few weeks, coinciding with the Bush State of the Union Address and the Congressional hearings on Bush?s illegal wiretapping operation. These ads have reached hundreds of thousands of people and we are planning to run more in the next few weeks. Please help with your contribution. How many full page newspaper ads and radio spots will appear depends entirely on the generous support and contributions from people who believe passionately that impeachment is absolutely critical to maintaining the integrity of the Constitution. |

Bush did not break the law. In fact, every President used the same "wire taps without a court order? since Johnson in 1968. YES that in includes the following Democrat Presidents: Johnson, Carter, and Clinton.
This is kind of shit pisses me off about you liberals; I hate when the hard right does the same shit too. BE CONSISTENT If it is Impeachable for Bush and you are crying to have his head ? where in the FUCK were you when Johnson, Carter, and Clinton did the same? Moreover ? the government was only listening to people (most are not US citizens) that often talked with terrorist countries and said repeated things like bomb, Jihad, and other shit like this. I am a right thinking libertarian and I hate government intrusion ? but this intrusion is warranted. The same people now calling for Bush?s head for wire-tapping are the same people that were calling for his head a few years ago stating he was not doing anything to stop terrorism. You want to something to fight: go after the anti-smoking Nazis that are trying to band you from smoking in your own house. In many cities they have band it from bars, restraints, ball parks, and many other areas. However, you do not see the local government band the selling of tobacco products. This will never happen ? they collect too much money form taxes form its sales. HIPPOCRATES There are many other groups out there too that are getting some government support, their causes have a wide range from what we drive, the house we have, what we eat, the clothing we buy? the list of causes goes on and on. FUCK them ? let us live free. If you want to control people ?bad behavior? move the fuck out of this country. Here is another BIG thing to get pissed about ? the government now has the ?right? to come steal your personal property and sell it to a private company. What the FUCK kind of country is this coming too? Every Supreme Justice that voted for this should be throne off the Court. By the way, they do not have life tenor. Congress has the authority to remove Justices from the Supreme Court. Congress has done it many times in years past. |

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...122102253.html As a libertarian you should be outraged by Bush's warrantless tapping of US citizens w/out court approval, the scope of the spying and the mechanisms it puts in place. How long till the definition of 'terrorist' is expanded to anyone they don't like? This type of behavior needs some kind of oversight rather than usurping the seperation of powers.

Only my
but in all fairness and forgetting any partisan politics - or politics of any kind, - George needs impeaching simply because he can't talk.We all screw up on occasion, but that degree is verbal garbage is a liability to any country. On wire-tapping... why all the fuss? It is well-known there is extensive electronic surveillance within the US and certainly nothing new. Has nobody ever noticed the various comments over the last decade from telecom companies based in the US where they had "issues" with the Federal goverment concerning "facilities"?? The last one I happened to see was the CEO of a Florida-based telcom corp complaining about the further increasing costs they were expected to cover in providing free additional facilities for phone tapping and the total bill was eating into their shareholders dividends. BTW this was before 9/11. But I'm sure the electronic surveillance was just for "external" purposes and they would never dream of offending any US citizen by actually spying on them.

These groups may not share mainstream America beliefs, but they are not terrorists. They are exercising their rights as American's to believe and say what they want. The real concern here is that the government is taking the initial steps to outlaw certain types of radical beliefs, and they are starting with the worse of the worse as to ease people into it so that nobody questions them along the way. If it is eventually accepted by mainstream America that a non-violent white supremest is a terrorist, then I hate to think where it could go from there. |

When Clinton got impeached it was nothing but poliltical bullshit. The crap with Monica had nothing to do with what they were after; It's all a fucking game. I think Bush is the worst thing that has ever happened to the US, but I surely don't see grounds for impeachment. An impeachment is very serious; Not a fucking smack on a wrist. Impcheachment should be so serious that if it's ever even brought up it should be both clear and obvious that the President is about to resign. At the rate we are going impeachment will become a mockery and every President will have to face at least one.

There will be no impeachment. The house and senate wouldn't do it even if he killed a hooker on the whitehouse lawn, fucked her corpse, while jerking off a great dane.

Former Vice President Al Gore's assertion that President Bush "repeatedly and persistently" broke the law by eavesdropping on Americans without a court warrant did not fall on deaf ears in Washington, D.C. In fact, the Republican National Committee swiftly reacted to the loser of the 2000 presidential election, with RNC press secretary Tracey Schmitt stating: "Al Gore's incessant need to insert himself in the headline of the day is almost as glaring as his lack of understanding of the threats facing America. While the president works to protect Americans from terrorists, Democrats deliver no solutions of their own, only diatribes laden with inaccuracies and anger." The RNC then showed why Gore's comments are hard to swallow, providing these insightful reminders: Once Upon A Time, Gore Talked Tough About Cracking Down On Terrorists: In 1999, Vice President Gore Declared: "Hear Me Well - We Will Fight The Reckless Violence Of Terrorism And We Will Never Yield To Terrorism, Ever." (Joe Carroll, "Clinton Exhorts Parties to Surmount Last Hurdle," The Irish Times, 3/18/99) At A 1996 Counter-Terrorism Event Gore Said: "The Bottom Line Is That President Clinton And I And The Members Of This Commission Have Pledged To The Families Of The Victims Of Terrorism That We're Going To Take The Strongest Measures Possible To Reduce The Risk Of Another Tragedy In The Future." (Al Gore, White House Briefing, 9/5/96) Clinton/Gore Administration Used Warrantless Searches: Clinton Administration Deputy Attorney General Jamie S. Gorelick: "(T)he Department Of Justice Believes, And The Case Law Supports, That The President Has Inherent Authority To Conduct Warrantless Physical Searches For Foreign Intelligence Purposes And That The President May, As Has Been Done, Delegate This Authority To The Attorney General." (Deputy Attorney General Jamie S. Gorelick, Permanent Select Committee On Intelligence, U.S. House Of Representatives, Testimony, 7/14/94) In 1994, President Clinton Expanded The Use Of Warrantless Searches To Entirely Domestic Situations With No Foreign Intelligence Value Whatsoever. In A Radio Address Promoting A Crime- Fighting Bill, Mr. Clinton Discussed A New Policy To Conduct Warrantless Searches In Highly Violent Public Housing Projects." (Charles Hurt, "'Warrantless' Searches Not Unprecedented," The Washington Times, 12/22/05) "One Of The Most Famous Examples Of Warrantless Searches In Recent Years Was The Investigation Of CIA Official Aldrich H. Ames, Who Ultimately Pleaded Guilty To Spying For The Former Soviet Union. That Case Was Largely Built Upon Secret Searches Of Ames' Home And Office In 1993, Conducted Without Federal Warrants." (Charles Hurt, "'Warrantless' Searches Not Unprecedented," The Washington Times, 12/22/05) President Bill Clinton: "(T)he Attorney General Is Authorized To Approve Physical Searches, Without A Court Order, To Acquire Foreign Intelligence Information For Periods Of Up To One Year ..." (President Bill Clinton, Executive Order 12949, "Foreign Intelligence Physical Searches," 2/9/95) Meanwhile, Polling Shows Americans Support President Bush's Decision On Wire Tapping: "(A Rasmussen Reports Survey Found) Sixty-Four Percent (64 percent) Of Americans Believe The National Security Agency (NSA) Should Be Allowed To Intercept Telephone Conversations Between Terrorism Suspects In Other Countries And People Living In The United States ? Just 23 percent Disagree." (Rasmussen Reports' Web site, http://www.rasmussenreports.com, Accessed 1/6/06) Eighty-One Percent (81 percent) Of Republicans Believe The NSA Should Be Allowed To Listen In On Conversations Between Terror Suspects And People Living In The United States. That View Is Shared By 51 percent Of Democrats ..." (Rasmussen Reports' Web site, http://www.rasmussenreports.com, Accessed 1/6/06) The FISA Court Does Not Provide Flexibility Needed To Fight The War On Terrorism: President Bush: "(T)he (9/11) Commission Criticized Our Nation's Inability To Uncover Links Between Terrorists Here At Home And Terrorists Abroad. Two Of The Terrorist Hijackers Who Flew A Jet Into The Pentagon, Nawaf Al Hamzi And Khalid Al Mihdhar, Communicated While They Were In The United States To Other Members Of Al Qaeda Who Were Overseas." (President Bush, Radio Address, Washington, D.C., 12/17/05) 9/11 Commission Report: "On January 15, (2000) Hazmi And Mihdhar Arrived In Los Angeles. ... After The Pair Cleared Immigration And Customs At Los Angeles International Airport, We Do Not Know Where They Went. ... We Do Not Pick Up Their Trail Until February 1, 2000 ..." ("Final Report Of The National Commission On Terrorist Attacks Upon The United States," The 9/11 Commission Report, 7/22/04) Attorney General Alberto Gonzales: "The Operators Out At NSA Tell Me That We Don't Have The Speed And The Agility That We Need, In All Circumstances, To Deal With This New Kind Of Enemy. You Have To Remember That FISA Was Passed By The Congress In 1978. There Have Been Tremendous Advances In Technology ... Since Then." (Attorney General Gonzales, Press Conference, 12/19/05) The Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol: "Remember Moussaoui? Remember August 2001? The FBI Wanted To Go To The FISA Court To Get Surveillance Capabilities Based On What They Found On His Computer, And The Justice Department Decided No. Now, The Patriot Act Did Not Change That Standard Of FISA ..." (Fox News' "Fox News Sunday," 12/18/05) Kristol: "I Wish Bill Clinton Had Done This. I Wish We Had Tapped The Phones Of The People Of Mohammed Atta Here Into The United States If We Discovered Phone Calls From Afghanistan To Him. That Was Why 9/11 Happened. That's What Connecting The Dots Is." (Fox News' "Fox News Sunday," 12/18/05) 9/11 Commission Report: "The Agents In Minnesota Were Concerned That The U.S. Attorney's Office In Minneapolis Would Find Insufficient Probable Cause Of A Crime To Obtain A Criminal Warrant To Search Moussaoui's Laptop Computer. Agents At FBI Headquarters Believed There Was Insufficient Probable Cause. Minneapolis Therefore Sought A Special Warrant Under The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act To Conduct The Search ... FBI Headquarters Did Not Believe This Was Good Enough, And Its National Security Law Unit Declined To Submit A FISA Application." ("Final Report Of The National Commission On Terrorist Attacks Upon The United States," The 9/11 Commission Report, 7/22/04) Bush Administration's Wiretapping Authorization Has Been Successful: "Officials Have Privately Credited The Eavesdropping With The Apprehension Of Lyman Faris, A Truck Driver Who Pleaded Guilty In 2003 To Planning To Blow Up The Brooklyn Bridge." (Peter Baker, "President Says He Ordered NSA Domestic Spying," The Washington Post, 12/18/05) |

Johnson didn't do shit. Clinton and Carter signed orders pertaining to illegal aliens living in the USA. Dubya spied on US citizens, which are protected by the constitution. Unless they were already spying then how would they know that keywords were being mentioned in the phone calls? That being said, there is still some issue on its legality. He may have acted in a totally legal manner whether I like it or not. There will be no impeachment this year. Some of those that are up for reelection will make noise but it won?t happen. Most of the news media is controlled by the administration right now and people listen to it blindly with out checking facts. Dubya?s rating would have to fall below 35% for him to be impeached. Also bombs will fall in Iran this summer. A good war always helps get voters to the polls and makes them forget about other things. There will be false alarm soon to distract voters. If things still go sour there will need to be an actual attempt foiled on US soil. Think about the impeachment process. Lets say he is found guilty and steps down. Then guess who gets the job. Imagine Halliburton replacing the IRS, Army Corps of Engineers and managing the nations oil reserves. It?s a loosing situation. |

You asked for proof that he was breaking the law, so I gave it to you. I can really careless who says it is right or wrong, but the fact is, the Constitution says it is illegal and that is all that really matters. The government is run by what is on paper not by whom is elected for a measly 4 year term. The person elected to the 4 year term has to obey the paper, if they don't obey the paper, then they are breaking the law. George W Bush will be gone soon, but the Constitution will be here for the life of the republic. |

I would be interested in seeing someone create a thread highlighting all the wonderful things that have been accomplished by the President and his team since 2000. We always see the negative here, but none of the supporters really show much of a positive outlook. Instead it's always " oh yeah ? Well Dems are bad too, here's why ... blah blah ". Let's see what great things have been accomplished so far.

This nonsense is simply an attempt by a bunch of democrats that can't win elections or put forth a decent presidential candidate to get rid of Bush. They and the moronic left just can't accept the fact the American people consistenly reject a party devoid of ideas or a plan to deal with serious issues like terrorism.
Constant repetition of "BUSH SUCKS" without an alternative solution has proven to be a losing strategy.... |
