On wire-tapping... why all the fuss? It is well-known there is extensive electronic surveillance within the US and certainly nothing new.
Has nobody ever noticed the various comments over the last decade from telecom companies based in the US where they had "issues" with the Federal goverment concerning "facilities"??
The last one I happened to see was the CEO of a Florida-based telcom corp complaining about the further increasing costs they were expected to cover in providing free additional facilities for phone tapping and the total bill was eating into their shareholders dividends. BTW this was before 9/11.
But I'm sure the electronic surveillance was just for "external" purposes and they would never dream of offending any US citizen by actually spying on them.
