Weird ISP/Server Problem (Take 3)...
Hey guys. Got a major problem, no one can tell me wtf is going on, hoping someone here can help me, or at least tell me what's wrong.
I have two blog sites, www.myteenieblog.com and www.teeniesexkittens.com, which are both hosted through the same hosting company. For the last 30 hours I have not been able to access either site, or check my e-mail through Outlook, it says that the domains do not exsist. Now, here's where it gets really weird. As far as I know, anyone that is on the same ISP as me cannot access the sites...but people on other ISP's can. Check it for yourselves and let me know if it works for you. My business partner and I are on the same ISP (Adelphia) and we can't access the site, but our friend who lives 10 miles away can access the site from RoadRunner. Now, I've called the ISP...they say there is nothing wrong on their end. So I called the server...and they said nothing was wrong on their end either. Something has to be wrong somewhere...so does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks in advance for any help. |

Do a traceroute from your desktop to your server. Post the results here.

working fine for me
sounds like a dns issue somewhere between your host and you....i would say give it time, but it appears that you already done that have you tried to do a tracert to see where the problem might be coming in? |

Try this.
FOR WINDOWS XP, 2000, and 2003 ONLY For other options and for information for those that don't know how to change dns servers.. Here's some info on how..(excerpts from dslreports) Q: How do I change what DNS server my computer uses? (#8164) A: Note: Instructions below are for Windows 2000, XP and 2003 users only. For a complete set of instructions for multiple operating systems, including screenshots, please visit the ORSC website. Additionally, if you are behind a router, you may have to change DNS settings using the router configuration utility. Please consult your user manual. To change DNS servers: o Right click on the My Network Places icon on the desktop and select Properties. (If the icon is not available, go to Start menu | My Computer | My Network Places | View Network Connections.) o Locate the network connection that is associated with your Internet connection. This may be labeled something like "Local Area Connection." If you have more than one connection to choose from, be sure you determine the right one before proceeding. o Right click on the appropriate connection and select Properties. o In the list that appears under the General tab, double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). o In the window that appears, you want to select the option to Use the following DNS server addresses... At this point you will want to enter at least one of your personal preferred DNS servers. There are a number of public servers suggested by members of the Comcast forum; simply do a search for 'DNS' and you should get adequate results. You can also check out this list compiled by jdmatl See Profile. o Press Ok out of all windows until you are back to the Network Connections window. You can now open your web browser and browse to a website to see if it connects faster. and here's some servers Verizon (Level3) Nameservers 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2 4.2.2.3 4.2.2.4 4.2.2.5 4.2.2.6 SpeakEasy Nameservers 66.93.87.2 216.231.41.2 216.254.95.2 64.81.45.2 64.81.111.2 64.81.127.2 64.81.79.2 64.81.159.2 66.92.64.2 66.92.224.2 66.92.159.2 64.81.79.2 64.81.159.2 64.81.127.2 64.81.45.2 216.27.175.2 66.92.159.2 66.93.87.2 ORSC Public Access DNS Nameservers 199.166.24.253 199.166.27.253 199.166.28.10 199.166.29.3 199.166.31.3 195.117.6.25 204.57.55.100 Sprintlink General DNS 204.117.214.10 199.2.252.10 204.97.212.10 Cisco 128.107.241.185 192.135.250.69 TNTaangela Re: Here's a List of DNS Servers & How-To Instructions Apr 12, 2005 11:04 PM Posts: 2,822 From: Nashville, TN Registered: 10/1/03 Reply Report Abuse For Mac OS X 10.3 1. Do you have a local hosts file? Can you traceroute to the IP? Here, try this: go into your tcp settings and use 4.2.2.2 as your DNS server and see if you can resolve the name.
the problem is you/your ISP, not anyone else

And my question is...why is it only not letting these two domains through? I can go to any of the other sites I run, that are hosted on a different server, but I can't get to these two that are hosted on this server. |

I have comcast and have been using 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 for years there is nothing illegal or wrong about choosing to use another nameserver than the ones your isp has set up |

Have you tried accessing the IP the website is hosted on direct? 70.84.133.222 - if you get a Ciberstream welcome screen, then the problem is likely DNS ... try using different DNSes as others have suggested - another option is to manually add an entry to your host.txt file in Windows - do a google for instructions.
However, if you get nothing when trying to access via IP address, then the problem is likely routing ... a more difficult problem to work around. Let us know ... what would also be helpful is to a traceroute using the IP address - if it's a routing problem, there's likely to be a clue in the traceroute data. Ron

I'm able to access it no problem. Your isp must have blocked ip ranges for some reason.

Done that. They said that it was not their problem, and that I need to contact my host. I told them that it wasn't the host, because it was loading for people on other ISP's. They told me I was mistaken. lol. Ooook, I'm the idiot in all of this. |
