Apparently, you are a fan of big budget/big special effects films!
I have to agree on Sin City, even for sheer visual appeal. Definetly ground-breaking. But beyond that, I can barely think of 5 decent movies I saw this year. Overall, a pretty lousy year unless you like gorillas, bats and wizards. I'll be seeing Munich I hope this week, so that may get '06 off to a good start ![]() |

2005 was the year of the remake (and mostly bad ones at that) and bad-tv-shows-to-movies - there was so little to get me motivated. |

sarah, did you finally see constant gardener? what did you think of it? good night and good luck is slow...more of a docudrama than a drama, but wonderful acting... ![]() ![]() people should seriously consider giving their multiplexes a rest and hitting the arthouse theatres if they think that movies suck nowadays...yes...movies suck...there are plenty of great films though ![]() |

The problem is that even though international release dates for big blockbusters are becoming more or less the same we still have to wait a while between the American and UK release dates for the more quality films. I try to see all the Oscar films before they come out and that is always a real challenge as some don't get released here until afterwards. Heck, sometimes they are on DVD in the States before they are in the cinemas in the UK. I am an arthouse and world cinema type of gal. I watched four movies on dvd last night..three were Japanese and one was French. |

Then he made me watch Tetsuo which is possibly the most messed up film I have seen in a long time. Not for the average cinema goer at all but worth seeing if you like to be grossed out and confused. It is only an hour long which was about as much as I could deal with of it. Then I brought out one of my faveorite Japanese films - Ai no corrida (In The Realm Of the Senses). It was banned most places in the West when it came out in 1976 because it is explicit both sexually and violently towards the end. It is a story based on the real life 1936 sex scandal that was a big deal in Japan. It is a fine study of sexual obsession. However, please only watch the uncut subtitled version. We made the mistake of buying the dubbed version of the DVD and it takes away too much of the sensuality that sucks you in. The French film I saw was Drôle de Félix which is sort of a road movie between north and southern France taken by a gay, hiv positive of French-Arab decent. It wasn't bad but not fantastic either. Typical French story telling devices of breaking it up into a series of chapters almost where he meets different people in each one. |

The actor that played Hitler did really well but isn't in as much of the film as you would think. The woman that played the wife of Joseph Goebbels got me the most. Not the least reason because of a scene that involves the death of her kids..one of the most haunting scenes I have seen in any film ever. |

as far as comedies go, lotsa votes for "40 Year Old Virgin" and hardly any, if at all, for "Wedding Crashers." Thought it would be more even.
