On a serious note:

I have no problem with what I do for a living, but I don't need everyone in my community knowing what I do for a living, just as I wouldn't want them to know how much money I make, how much is in my 401k etc.

The town I live in is small, and full of mostly retired people. They have nothing better to do than gossip. The consequences could go far past them knowing. Being a firefighter I could lose my job if shit like this got out. It's just not cool to send out mailers like that. There should be some discretion and some common sense.

That doesn't work for everyone. In a small town, the P.O. is at the same fucking post office. For sicone , he mentioned in another thread that he too has a P.O. box and his kid likes to run in and get the mail. It would be fine for everyone if it was wrapped appropriately, its a simple fix.

i agree with the most part but if its your kids youre worried about, just dont let them get the mail. You know your gonna recieve stuff. Even if it came in a black envelope, kids are kids, and they could possibly open it up to see what it is.

No matter what you do, pornography will always be controversial, too much religion worldwide and closed minds make limited judgements that it is 'dirty' etc.

I guess these webmasters should just do what AVN suggests and get themselves removed from the mailing list. Maybe when a bunch stop getting the mag and they notice their advertising $'s decreasing then they'll realise one of the most important things to know in business - they need to listen to their customers.

AVN is supposed to be there for webmasters, not the opposite. It was pretty fucking obvious what we wanted, and they didn't comply. I personally try to stay away as much as possible from them.

My kids NEVER check the mail unless I've already checked it before hand just incase something that they shouldn't see happens to be in there. Even though they like to check the mail, I can't just allow them to run out the door willy nilly and get it if they feel so inclined. It's MY job to make sure that they aren't exposed to anything that they shouldn't be. Noone else's.

I realize what industry I work in and I censor what my kids can possibly be exposed to.

Now, as far as being in a small town, and everyone knowing everyone else, and the mailman's prying eyes scanning what comes in my mailbox, and him perhaps going and running his mouth in the local tavern. Well, I can understand that completely and agree, atleast a plain black wrapper should be employed in AVN's mailings.

if AVN went with beastality, i probably wouldnt be subscribing anymore. I dont get any fuckin mail from the adult industry at my home address, it all comes to my office. If you dont have an office and are still highly concerned with this, get a PObox.

look they do protect the mag... this was an envlope that said "gayavn" I got it to everyone did... nothing wrong with it at all... fact is I did not even open it it went to file 13... and to top it all off my assistant went to the PO box to get it... so she walked out with it... and she is very consertive and still goes to church... but she also understands her job is a job and buisness is buisness.... I see nothing wrong with what they did... now on the other hand.. I am not condoning AVN or there practices but I am also not bashing them for this one.... if it was danzabucks.com that sent out a flyer in the mail long as there was no nuidity on there.. I am fine with it.... it is our job as parents to protect our kids from what they see not AVN's we are all trying to run a buisness...

I receive all kinds of stuff in black sleeves, and its not just adult stuff. For me the local P.O. boxes are at the post office 1/4 mile from my house in the same small town, so unless I wanted to get a P.O. 30 miles away from me, it doesn't really matter. The simple fact is that, people don't need to be forced to see the content. Not everyone is so open to the subject matter and I don't need people dipping into my business, its that simple.

But it doesn't come in black sleeves. And, they never purge their address lists or update them, so some of us who have been independent contractors for years are receiving several of the same two sided post card mailers.....

My kid knows what I do. I didn't think the world had to know. I thought that was still MY choice whether or not I tell people what I do for a living.

My child also gets mail at the box, several times a week. So I should take away something from him that makes him happy and makes him feel like a responsible big boy (anyone who has had a child around 7 yrs of age knows what I'm talking about)

I do everything I can to keep my work from coming into his life. When I get home from work with him, I do no adult related work until after he is in bed, and even then I still close and lock the door to the room where I do my work.

Trust me, I know its up to me to protect my son from things, and I do the best I can. However, a little discretion on the part of a company is not too much to ask. After all, is their product not to serve and inform us, is it not our advertising dollars who pay their bills.

Common courtesy among people/business partners may be a strange and unknown topic to most of you, but its really not asking too much.

Great points Ruth - maybe I was i little quick to tell people to opt out. I have seen this complaint before - not sure why the problem continues but I am looking into it.

The response from AVN about this issue has been one of the all time worst responses to a problem I have ever seen.
All they have to do is say sorry..we fucked up, bad policy..and then actually change future mailings, but they choose to lay the blame off on the recipents of their unscolicited mailings????

Telling subscribers to their magazine to opt out if they dont want other types of mail from them???
I'm sure the advertisers will greatly appreciate AVN's efforts to destroy it's readership and distribution of the Ad's the advertisers paid good $ for...

Simple... Be discreet, use fake names if you are ashamed of what you do. Why does AVN have your address? They don't have mine. It's a useless publication anyhow, xbiz is much better and its available free online. To answer your question, I don't have kids, if I did I would be even more discreet about what I do. I manage to make one of the better incomes here and I've never given my address to anybody or been to a show or been involved in anyway with the 'community'. I see nothing wrong with what they did... now on the other hand.. I am not condoning AVN or there practices but I am also not bashing them for this one.... if it was danzabucks.com that sent out a flyer in the mail long as there was no nuidity on there.. So I should take away something from him that makes him happy and makes him feel like a responsible big boy (anyone who has had a child around 7 yrs of age knows what I'm talking about) I do everything I can to keep my work from coming into his life. When I get home from work with him, I do no adult related work until after he is in bed, and even then I still close and lock the door to the room where I do my work. Trust me, I know its up to me to protect my son from things, and I do the best I can. However, a little discretion on the part of a company is not too much to ask. After all, is their product not to serve and inform us, is it not our advertising dollars who pay their bills. All they have to do is say sorry..we fucked up, bad policy..and then actually change future mailings, but they choose to lay the blame off on the recipents of their unscolicited mailings???? Telling subscribers to their magazine to opt out if they dont want other types of mail from them??? I'm sure the advertisers will greatly appreciate AVN's efforts to destroy it's readership and distribution of the Ad's the advertisers paid good $ for... If AVN had half a clue they would fire the idiot responding as a spokesperson for AVN.
