My kids NEVER check the mail unless I've already checked it before hand just incase something that they shouldn't see happens to be in there. Even though they like to check the mail, I can't just allow them to run out the door willy nilly and get it if they feel so inclined. It's MY job to make sure that they aren't exposed to anything that they shouldn't be. Noone else's.
I realize what industry I work in and I censor what my kids can possibly be exposed to.
Now, as far as being in a small town, and everyone knowing everyone else, and the mailman's prying eyes scanning what comes in my mailbox, and him perhaps going and running his mouth in the local tavern. For me the local P.O. boxes are at the post office 1/4 mile from my house in the same small town, so unless I wanted to get a P.O. 30 miles away from me, it doesn't really matter. My child also gets mail at the box, several times a week. So I should take away something from him that makes him happy and makes him feel like a responsible big boy (anyone who has had a child around 7 yrs of age knows what I'm talking about)
I do everything I can to keep my work from coming into his life. When I get home from work with him, I do no adult related work until after he is in bed, and even then I still close and lock the door to the room where I do my work.
Trust me, I know its up to me to protect my son from things, and I do the best I can. However, a little discretion on the part of a company is not too much to ask. After all, is their product not to serve and inform us, is it not our advertising dollars who pay their bills.

The response from AVN about this issue has been one of the all time worst responses to a problem I have ever seen.
