Google changed the domain of it's email accounts to @googlemail.com. What's going on?

I believe this started in EUROPE, maybe it's moving to the USA.
Google in all their wisdom never thought to check for trademarks for GMAIL before moving forward with the name.

Fact of the matter is google thought they were above the law as usual and just used the gmail name anyways and got owned.
