do you believe the blue color makes surfers buy less porn?
I'm building a few BBW small sites and darkblue background seems to be the nicest color to go with the design.
I remember the blue color has a psychological affect on people that decreases hunger and sex drive. is that total bullshit? |

No it's not total bullshit. I read various articles about background colors and the effect they have on people.
I would never give a porn site a dark background color, other than for BDSM or bizarre niches.

I also understand the black color is a "none color", so that's ok too. I guess the standard designer knows all about this. |

don't use blue.
I've tried it in the past... 2 sites, same content, different colors... blue just doesn't work. |

Color psychology has a lot less value than some put on it.
If you notice, in most verticals companies within the same industry follow similar trends to make shoppers feel welcome. A perfect example are office supply stores. Office Depot, Office Max and Staples. All three stores adopted a similar color scheme or predominantly red and white. While I haven't actually visited their websites recently this used to serve as a perfect example when i worked with clients on building a website that would perform well against established competitors within a specific vertical. |

dark blue is my best-selling color. it might partly be a niche-related thing, but other than a black background, my best sales come from dark blue.

if i am going to use blue, i always use very light colors of blue.
as a general rule i try to stick with light background colors. seems to make the design stand out more in most cases, and usually helps it looks a little cleaner.

I prefer blue and its variants for love or dating websites...
I also build a BDSM site.. and I made it using dark colors, "converts very good" If someone ask me... my humble opinion is... porn should be "pink". As pink as a pussy's pink

I have to believe that colors have little to do with converting traffic..
If the content is good it doesn't matter if the background color is pink, black, white, blue or whatever.

well, i dont think that using this color affect the sells, we have to learn about mix color manage. Most of the hottest porn pics have a bluesky background and looks great!
....the design is not a single color. |

Colors play into it all.
Every hue, every dominate. I generally apply a triadic color formula to me designs. But select a dominate color in the triadic and get with the tonal qualities of the dominate color. I believe it is more about the contrast's more so than the individual colors themselves. Some peeps think blue and yellow is a good color combo, but... Blue and Orange work better for example. I think more of colors as sound and color's are the notes. D# is very dark, crimson to a dark red while C# tends to be more cooler blue to purple. Use the contrast between the colors to create a harmony. You think along the lines of that and I think that depending on the mood and tonal quality you are creating visually is played out much like a song. There is no sense in jumping into a jumple of notes in a song why do such a thing in graphics. It looks horrible and in the case of music sounds like shit.

Never read much into the psych of colors, but when I sold cars it was a rule that all contracts be filled out in blue, all prices be written in blue marker and under no circumstances should there ever be a red or green pen in the sales office. I was told the reason is that blue calms people and puts them into a mood where they're ready to buy.
Frankly I always felt it was a load of crap, but they did consistently sell more cars than any other dealership in that state. |
