Schwarzenegger Signs Ban on School Junk Food

You know what ... from what I've seen so far, he did a better job then a lot of politicians did in the past ... lots of GREAT choices. And that's by far the best one and what EVERY place in the world should do.

I don't know everything thought so I might be wrong . But he did a couple of good controversial decisions (going agaisn't the sugar empire like that takes a lot of balls).

I posted the full article on there :

Yup lets ban sugar, nicotine, alchohol, & anything else thats bad for us. And when the medical reports coming out say porn may "distort reality" etc., lets ban porn too.

I think it's pretty safe to say that you did not understand the book if you think it has any relevance in a discussion about not providing junk food in elementary schools.

Holy Christ you like to oversimplify things.

Kids are stupid. If there's junk food being served, most kids will eat it every day because kids don't understand consequences. Serving junk food in schools is a terrible idea, despite the fact that you can't understand why. I would never send my kids to a school with a fucking McDonalds in it.

It's hilarious to see someone who's completely talking out of his ass insulting other people. Yeah, people are sheep because they think that kids will eat more junk food if it's served to them for lunch every day. What morons!

I don't see how anyone is against this. It's not like the kids can't eat junk food anymore. I'm sure some parents wil be more than happy to send their kids to school with Big Macs etc. Or take them to wendys after school.

Don't worry people, kids can still easily become obese, no need to be alarmed!

Explain it to us then, genius. You think any sort of government regulation is pushing us towards totalitarianism?

Good call smart guy, let junk food companies decide what our children eat because you don't understand the meaning of a book.

Oh good God, children don't have 24/7 access to candy bars anymore, we all may as well put on our overalls!

Let me guess, you read the book in high school right before you dropped out.

Actually i dropped out of college (network admin) right after i made my first 40k in a month.

Now then.......

Totalitarianism is a typology employed by political scientists to describe modern regimes in which the state regulates nearly every aspect of public and private behavior.

I think that definition fits in pretty well with what we "allow" our children to eat at school.

Go back to college.

Keeping terrible food that has created an epidemic of obese children out of schools is far from the state regulating every aspect of our lives. It's the state finally doing something about a horrible problem, which is junk food companies bribing schools to poison our children. I'm sorry you don't understand the problem, thankfully most people do. I think you're pretty much on your own describing removing candy machines from schools as Orwellian. It did give myself and I'm sure a few others a good laugh though.

Wow, great accomplishment at a very young age there.

Well, I thin k I get your point. However, I don't think that's totalitarianism per see; since these are kids/children/minors, it is somehow ok if they will be guided with the foods they take.

I disagree with this wholeheartedly. Unless you are going to supply my child's lunch in some state-funded lunch program, you can not tell me what I can and can not feed my child.

That being said, I am actually quite anal about providing a well-balanced, healthy unch for them every day. Whole grain breads, fruits and veggies, dairy, protein, little sugar. Plus, I bake a lot rather than buy cookies etc with all the preservatives and crap in commerciall produced food. I dolieve in not allowing pop and candy machines in schools, and I think school cafeterias should have healthy food options for children.

What about increasing the education about nutrition to both the children and their parents? That is far more effective, in the long term, than controlling what children take to school for lunch.

from what i read it was just banning the sale of junk on campuses. your kids can still bring w/e they want, just cant buy it from a machine in the locker room.

"I think you're pretty much on your own describing removing candy machines from schools as Orwellian. It did give myself and I'm sure a few others a good laugh though."

Why the heck would schools serve junk food? That would be outrageous in other parts of the world. No way in heck something like that would happen in Norway...

The ban is on the sale of "junk food". You can still send your kid to school with a Ho Ho if you wish.

You people are amazing??? What fucking rights are you talking about. This is public school. BTW its a great move. There should be no junk food sold in school I mean kids cannot make smart choices especially when it comes to sugar. Kids these days will get lunch and buy nothing but soda and some greasy fries. Needs to change imo, if they want to have junk food get their parents to buy it for them.
