Server Matrix Dedicated: Yes or No?

Anyone have a better deal than SERVERMATRIX? (By better, I mean, "lower cost".)

I am looking for a self managed server. I hate being told "no" and my current host does a lot of that (shame, shame). I do everything myself. I only need you to hard reset the machine once a year when I fsck something up. I'm looking for some Redhat variant with WHM/CPanel.

Thanks. You need not alert me if you cannot beat Server Matrix.

Disclaimer: I do NOT host with Server Matrix. I am interested in contacting them, but I want to make sure they are the best deal out there. If you cannot beat Server Matrix's prices, then you need NOT apply or bother me with a response. Also, I am rather abrupt and abrasive, but I do NOT bother you beyond the setup of my server. Ever heard of Ronco? "Set it and forget it." I would only contact you if my server goes down or if you have a network outage, or if I didn't read your message that you were doing maintenance on systems and had to take mine offline.

Did I mention I was exceptionally lazy? I'm a programmer, not a doctor.

Depends on your definition of deal. We have have had customers with no downtime for years and cutting edge security and website speed.

Or is price the main factor here?

Good question, I'd like o know the answer too.

What is your main deciding factor? Price or ease?

chaze has a great product, but i'm sure he would agree, it might not be the best for everyone. Talk to chaze.

Price is the main factor.

After I'm set up with a server, I'm very low maintenance. I call my host an average of 4 times per year. How can it be more easy than letting me loose on a CPanel?

Dunno why you would need cheaper than SM. Their prices are already outstanding.

I'm sure you can find a webhost with 1k transfer a month dedi and only $20 a month. But are they going to be reliable?

yep, you get what you pay for

can you image the loss of business if your host went down during peek hours? it's happened to me before and it cost me more than a year's worth of hosting. And I was paying 3 times what I pay at server martix.

As long as you can do everything yourself, you are fine.
But if you need them to help you make a backup of your server, you are fucked.

Okay, follow this.

A previous host of yours went down at peak hours -- a host that cost you three times what you pay at Server Matrix.

That means, if I were to interpret, that Server Matrix is better IF Server Matrix hasn't gone down at peak hours. Let's just assume that's the case to get this flowing.

Also, one could interpret that EVEN THOUGH Server Matrix cost 1/3 that of a previous host of yours, Server Matrix is better. (That's essentially the same statement.)

What if there was a host that cost 1/3 that of Server Matrix and was better? Is that not worth checking out? Or is William Shatner wrong when he says it's brilliant to "shop and compare"?

the previous host did more work on the server but did not have the network and bandwidth providers that server matrix has.

the point is this. I did not do my homework and learned the hard way.

Server matirx HAS gone down at peak time at least 3 times in the last 6 months. For several hours, not just a few minutes. One time their entire network was down. I put in a ticket for the SLA guarantee, they gave me the run around, wanting to know the exact times and ips of every server that went down and when it came back up. Hell their whole network was down. I never got credited for the downtimes. Fuck it I just started pulling servers. Up until 6 months ago they were rock solid.

Well you could use Ev1servers instead, that is none managed cheap and really good hosting.

Bandwidth is Cogent, the same as on Servermatrix.

I just got so tired of bad BW so I moved to a move expensive and better host...

ServerMatrix is highly superior to EV1, however if you need really high quality bandwidth, etc, I'd go with their high end line at theplanet.com.

Did Server Matrix ever give you an explanation or try to rectify the situation?

Dude, FUCK YEAH! TP/SM is the best host in the industry, their is no one better. They are also one of the fastest growing hosting companies in the world. You dont active that by poor support and downtime.

I have 5 total servers in TP right now. Really happy with them.

No downtimes yet. *knock on wood*

I have been with them for 5 months now.

See, this is what I don't get. I don't know how much more plain I can be. No, premium bandwidth is not what I want. Cheap prices is what I want.

Why should I use SILVER from Tiffany & Company when a PLASTIC spork from Taco Bell will work? That's the problem with people today. People overspend.

Okay, so we scratch SplitInfinity off the list.
