The pumping of millions and millions of gallons of raw sewage, chemicals, dead animals, oil, etc. that was New Orleans into Lake Pontchartrain and the Gulf of Mexico will create an ecological nightmare for those folks downstream, ie Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Just wait till you see the "Beach Closed" signs for hundreds of miles and the seafood is unedible.

Another disaster in the making, and brought to you by the Bush Administration.

Right, and the President sets the budget all by himself? Nobody else has any say in the matter? I mean it's so much easier to blame one man than the entire goverment, isn't it?

I have seen several officials from the Army Corp of Engineers interviewed and all of them stated that the cuts in funding did not have anything to do with the breeches in the levees. They stated that the problem with the levees is the fact that they were built to withstand a cat 3...and not a cat 4 or 5. They stated that upgrading the levees to cat 4 or cat 5 was never in their foreseeable plans...and further more they stated the intended work on the 17th street canal break would not have prevented the breech in the levee.

I was actually thinking about that last night. I'm in this area and raw oysters are just about one of my favorite things. Spear fishing and then cooking it right on the boat is also a big favorite down here. I don't know when/if I'll ever feel right eating anything straight out of the Gulf again, even though I know it should be fine.

You are correct...the President does not pass a budget...Congress does. The President does not have line item veto power.

No, he should have made sure that the funding to increase the heights of the levees wasn't cut from the budgets for the past 6 years since studies indicated that they would not survive a direct hit from a hurricane.

That is the job of the government, to do those things to protect people that the people can not do themselves. And, if you are the President and sign the budgets, you have to take your share of responsibility. In this care, the Bush Administrations' share is directly on him. After all, the administration spent millions on their favorite pork projects in each of the highway bills. More exactly, 6,500 pork projects.....

the earth tends to take care of itself just fine. just like when the Exxon Valdez spilled millions of gallons of oil all in Prince William Sound..., by spring there was no trace of it whatsoever.

sewage? dead bodies? so what? are you thinking that fish dont shit in the ocean and all creatures of the sea never die? it all goes into the food chain from the bacteria and microscopic organisms up to crabs and fish ... all that will devour every trace of everything almost instantly.

How about cutting the Death Tax now? That is on Bush's agenda to do before the end of his term.

The goal of the Death Taxes was to keep America's society somewhat egalitarian. However, the rich use tax shelters, high-powered accountants, offshore banking, trust funds and a number of tax-breaks to shelter their wealth so that they don't breakup family fortunes.

I can see both pros and cons to the Death Tax if it was enforced equally, which it is not.
