To elaborate a little more on my first post, there are certain cases where wearing your seat belt would allow you to maintain better control of your car.

What if you we hit hard from behind and smashed yourself against the steering wheel and got knocked out or something? When you get hit, you can still control your vehicle to some degree.

If you had your belt on and didnt get knocked out, perhaps you could of steered the vehicle to the shoulder instead of hitting what was in front of you.

In the end, it's just smarter and safer. Anyone who doesn't wear their belt is an idiot. When you get into your first major car accident and go flying against the windshield, you'll realize this.

If you are in a wreck, and thrown from the car, the car is now a 2 ton projectile, with no one to control its direction or ability to stop. You have then made a vehicle that would likely harm no one else into a weapon of mass destruction.

i already explained how it increases revenue. it is especially apperent in my state where they repealed the motorocycle helmet law at the same time the national seatbelt law went into effect.

not as many people ride bikes, thus the money produced off tickets did not justify the manpower used to enforce. they realized the manpower would be better spent enforcing the new federal law which will undoubtly bring them more money. just look at the ratios of cars to bikes one the road.

it's just a logical conclusion.

Though a big fine isn't really warranted, you really should be wearing a seatbelt anyways.
Trust me man, I know it can be uncomfortable and all but it may/will save your life if you get in a decent collision.

My buddy was driving home from my house and had a head-on collision with another car. They were both doing about 30. He would have been dead or paralyzed if he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, and that's not bullshit. He said it hurt a bit (seatbelt against body during the collision) but what's worse? He walked away from it.
When I picked him up I saw how bad it was, both cars were totalled.

You are a fucking idiot. Any accident can injure you to the point in which you lose control of the vehicle entirely. Wearing your seatbelt simply increases your chance for safety and by doing so increases your chances of being able to control the vehicle.

His example may be an extreme, but it is completely applicable to every fender bender that occurs.

Also, what if you had a head-on collision, flew out your windshield and killed the driver in the other car by slamming through his window and into him?

basically what you are telling me is that if you are in a high speed wreck and you have your seatbelt on to remain in the car, that you will somehow be able to steer and operate the brakes? even though most likely the entire engine/steering/braking systems would be crushed?

i definately agree with you about accident costs, perhaps that is something that insurance companies should address in their policy though?

i knew you were going to go back to that. let me clarify. i was using a for instance.

your point is still invalid though. going at a high rate of speed and hitting anything with enough force to potentially fling your body through a glass windshieild does not imply any kind of control after the point of impact.

most people in high speed collisions (head on with a car, wall, army of midgets), are usually rendered unconscious by the force of the impact anyways, rendering them unable to control their vehicle anyways.
