basically what you are telling me is that if you are in a high speed wreck and you have your seatbelt on to remain in the car, that you will somehow be able to steer and operate the brakes? even though most likely the entire engine/steering/braking systems would be crushed?

You seem to think that the only high speed impacts are done with vehicles going 80 MPH into a wall.
Care to guess how fast this car was going?
