I am looking at getting a 2257 software to replace my old spreadsheet format , but I want to see what's out there to choose from. I am looking for something fairly inexpensive, but something that works. I talked to someone recently who told me to stay away from 2257madeeasy.com because he can't get it to work right and they have no support whatsoever.

What else is there?

YARGH! The one I use be good. I got it custom done but the guy is selling it too.

It has a content scanner, and the record input is very easy. Also allows users to be added with permissions so they can't edit anything just see it.

You can keep it digital on your home PC... install MySQL and so on. Can't see why that would cause problems.

There are also many database programs, you can use for more than just 2257. Like keeping lists of your sponsors and contact lists, payments and accounting, ref-codes, FHGs, templates and I can go on forever. Spend a little time on it and it saves you lots of time later. Really worth it

It shouldn't, considering of course the user knows how to install php and mysql on a home or office computer, just checking.

I'm not trying to slam it, I just think people should be informed fully as to what is required or not to run any of the software options out there. It's equally important that users know whether or not a solution has been reviewed and approved for use by an attorney with knowledge of the law.

Very true. Lawyers or not, the most important thing is not the tool, but the informations. So if you dont know the law, or don't take the time to know it (which you should in this biz), you need something that is approved...and tested by the inspectors would make it even better(?)

It's free yes, but in it's current state it is not compliant as a solution, so beware if you are counting on it to keep you legal. Buyers (even of free software) beware, please everyone do your research on these products to make sure you are compliant. No one is going to keep you out of trouble except for yourself.

Hmm, how come it's not compliant? I have a local Apache server with MySql anyway and I installed it perfectly... Now, if someone were to install it on a remote server, then it would be a different case, but I think most webmasters know how to install apache and mysql on a local machine. Please elaborate

For starters, there is no area to include information on your local "copy" of the depiction. I could list some other things, but I don't want to turn this thread into a "don't use the other solution because..." type of thread. I am only pointing out to people that are looking for a solution that they should do some homework and research on the different products and have an attorney review each one they select for compliance.

If the owner of HC wants to contact me I would be happy to discuss the other elements that are hindering that application from being compliant.

YARGH! Custom fields can be added by me. This way if the regs change I can add or take away fields as needed.

It does currently (in my version anyway) have a production date field, as well as a field for model ID which is what the "real" documents are Identified by locally in my office file cabinet.

If this isn't in the downloadable version I will let the Guy know. It's possible one of the older files were mistakenly uploaded prior to inclusion of these fields. Again though custom fields can be added with a couple of clicks anyway so the end user can add whatever they want.

Newbreed and I have spent the past 2 months (and several thousands of dollars) creating 2257 MAVIS. The most important aspect of which is the absolute compliance to the 2257 regulations, right out of the box. No 'custom' fields need to be added in order to make it compliant.

We have also had the software reviewed by a prominent adult industry attorney who is very familiar with 18 USC 2257 as well as 28 CFR Part 75 and he has provided documentation to us stating that 2257 MAVIS is not only fully compliant with the law, it's also the one he's going to be recommending to his clients. Period.

So you have a choice, and it's up to you to make it. You can use a 'solution' that is 'web server' based, not particularly user friendly, doesn't have advanced functionality that allows you to get your 2257 records in order quickly and relatively painlessly, or you can fall on someone elses sword when the inspectors come and find they cannot effectively locate the records they came to see.

The question becomes what software would you bet 10 years of your life on?

YARGH! I am guessing you didn't get what I wrote about the custom fields function. It's for flexibility in case the regs change, with a couple of clicks you can add a field later.

My copy of the software is 100% compliant "Out of the box" with current regs without any changes.

I have contacted the coder to suggest that an older version may have made it into the download. Newbreed said that fields were missing, I am sure it will be rectified. My copy was not missing these fields so I really don't know if they are in fact missing.


I found the software to work very well and has the same exact functionality as yours. I can scan content. I can add users with lesser permissions if they need to view the records. Every or any detail of a record can be searched.

As for being able to produce the physical docs, you give me a url (or partial), or model name, I'll punch it in, and every model on that url(s) will show. I then walk over to my file cabinet and get the records.

This isn't rocket science.

I have nothing to gain by telling people about this. It's free. I use it. I was suggesting alternatives like the original post requested.

I have no doubt your software is good, it may even be easier to use, but free is free. What you may give up slightly in ease of setup I think most would find is worth it given the low price of admission.

- I handle all the transactions personally. I have found when people talk to us directly and we have a chance to get an idea of where they are at as far as getting records in order, they have a very pleasent one on one experience buying and using the product. I prefer to give buying instructions to people who inquire through the site as I like to know who I am dealing with and what level of confidence they have when just starting out with the product. There is nothing wore in a buying process than shelling money out and finding out later the a product is not going to fit your needs, then going through a refund process (we haven't had to go there yet, and the example is exactly why). That said, there are pruchase instructions on the site.

- Support board has no talk on it because there is really very little support needed when using the product. I know it's hard to imagine, but it works that well out of the box. Additionaly, we had another support board setup when MAVIS was in beta, but it was not integrated into the site. This new one is and looks and works better. A lot of time went into designing MAVIS ans SCAT, and we got the majoirty of the bugs worked out before we launched it to the public. That said, what little support issues do arise are handled on the phone, on ICQ or AIM, or through e-mail

- I don't know where you got that from, registered copies of the software do not expire, and have not since the beta releases a couple of months ago. The beta releases were set to expire June 23rd, 2005. Any unregistered versions of the software would expire after a few days of installation.

- We had screenshots all over the site and here at GFY. Those screenshots were replaced (mostly) with newer flash videos that were much more informative.
