:mad Who the fuck does Bush think he is??

The White House on Monday warned Democrats not to make extensive requests for Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' legal writings in previous Republican administrations

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050726/...NlYwMlJVRPUCUl

WTF is that? Don't make extensive requests for documents when holding confirmation hearings for a lifetime appointment to the nation's highest court?

You weren't appointed emperor Dubya.....if there are skeletons in Roberts closet the Democrats have every right to dig for them. The republicans in congress blocked a hell of a lot more of Clinton's nominees than the Dems have filibustered during the current administration.

This is fucking ridiculous.

Bush thinks he is a Texas cowboy. Thats pretty much all there is to it. I mean really what can anyone do when he makes excessive demands? He's already out of office in the next pres election. Though I think Bush might burn things for the next bat shit crazy repubican to run.

So said Ben Franklin. Practically though, we are a representative democracy and always have been.

Of course not.
Journalists are liberal but the editors and corporate owners of the news agencies are very conservative, and would love nothing more than a strict constructionist conservative judge who thinks that things like the endangered species protection act get in the way of a free market.

Sure he's the president, but where does he get off "warning" another branch of the government not to do their job too thoroughly?

That would be like him "warning" the judge not to let too many facts into evidence in the Enron trial so his buddy won't go to jail.

The irony of this is delicious, after John Kerry withheld his own records during his campaign.

Of course, it's ok for Kerry to do it because he's a Democrat.
Just like, it's ok for Democrats to go to war (Kosovo etc).

People to the south don't have the luxury of media that isn't 100% dominated by corporate interests. It's also hard to get perspective when you're within the belly of the beast.

Jesus you people on the right are fucking delusional.....you just throw anything out there to try and keep people confused and keep the spin in your favor.

What records did Kerry withhold? The ones about his DWI? Or the ones about not showing up for his national guard service?

Oh wait....those were Dubya's records.

Also, insofar as Kosovo went, Clinton told the American people the truth about why he was sending troops there, he didn't make up stories about Milosevic having WMD's and then later change the story to some shit about democracy and human rights.

No I didn't expect the executive branch to withhold documents and "warn" senators not to request them during the hearings.

Of course you expect a president to fight for his nominee, but that means defending his record, not hiding his record.

Although after the white house has been withholding documents regarding Bolton for this long I guess it shouldn't surprise me.

Wow cambaby, what a way to show off your intelligence.

You can't add anything substantive to the discussion nor can you support your side's position so you post "whining" pictures.....that's great, thanks for your contribution.

Remember... this is the party that came up with "Freedom Fries".

If you're expecting maturity from the GOP, you haven't been paying attention. They're the only ones who can control all three branches and *still* try to blame democrats for all the problems they create.

You idiot. Obvious that you dont understand or have been misled. Every person in the country except democrats who mislead you know that a President has a right to privacy involving his legal council.

Liberals just told you that Bush is hiding something, but president makes his council public record or he would never be able to get a lawyer again.

The democrats just use this tactic as a filabuster technique becuase they have been voted out of power in all branches of the government. They are truely a minority party in the country.

You acqusation is fucking ridiculous.

Republican or Democrats doesn't matter if you are going to elect somebody to a lifetime position of that importance you better look at everything and for the republicans to say not to is just wrong and if it were the democrats saying it I would say it was wrong as well.

Warchild - you're absolutely correct - we are not a democracy and never have been - we were set up as a republic and it's even in the Constitution. Unfortunately a lot of people think that just because we go around trying to get other nations to be democracies, that we are too. It even has been taught in the US schools forever, but that's only because we can't train a teacher correctly in this country.

As far as the corporate media picking up this story - they have and are already touting it around with their paid "experts", however as usual it will only have the edited version allowed by the White House press office.
We don't allow the press to report things honestly - and when they get out of hand, we send them a little poison powder in an envelope to rein them back in

Thats a pretty good conspiracy theory there. However, if a hint of that was true, Dan Rather and company would have been blown up in their cars years ago.

The funniest irony of the country is democrats getting fed selective opinions as news while they are run to message boards and call other people sheep.

This thread is a great example. This poster only understands a small portion of the story, the small portion he has been fed is designed to create a negative image of an opposing political party.

When fully explained, it makes perfect sense to a logical person, but he wasn't fed the whole story.

think about it. Read all the responses in this thread and then realize what is actually not being released:

"But the White House will claim privilege for the work Roberts performed while serving as principal deputy solicitor general in the administration of former President George H.W. Bush"

Nobody ever gets private attorny/client information made public. Why would the democrats expect it now????????? Just to get misguided keyboard warriors to do their bidding for them. LOL

This tactic got comical the last time the democrats filabustered.

They kept asking for specific documents before they would vote. So they kept giving them the documents and they would change the ones they were asking for. All designed to keep their rhetoric on the front pages. No real government work involved.

People should ask for documents in such an important matter, mainly taking in consideration all the lies and propaganda that this administration pushes....

Quote:
PR war: US cites ?enemies of humanity? for Iraq strikes

[ TUESDAY, JULY 26, 2005 01:42:40 AM ]

BAGHDAD: The US military on Sunday said it was looking into how virtually identical quotations ended up in two of its news releases about different insurgent attacks. Following a car bombing in Baghdad on Sunday, the US military issued a statement with a quotation attributed to an unidentified Iraqithat was virtually identical to a quote reacting to an attack on July 13.

After questioning by news media, the military released the statement without the quotation. Lt Col Clifford Kent, spokesman for the US Army?s 3rd Infantry Division, said use of the quote was an ?administrative error?. He said the military was looking into the matter.

The car bomb killed 25 people and wounded 33 others near the al-Rashad police station, Baghdad emergency police said. A statement about the attack by Task Force Baghdad 3rd Infantry Division contained a three-sentence quote attributed to an unidentified Iraqi.

The statement said the Iraqi called the attackers ?enemies of humanity? and vowed to ?take the fight to the terrorists?.The quote was virtually the same as a quote contained in a Task Force Baghdad 3rd Infantry Division statement released after a car bombing on July 13.

Actually a republican - K Starr - tested this and won on two occasions back when he was after Clinton - Starr persuaded the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to follow the Eighth Circuit. The court ruled that exposure of wrongdoing by government lawyers fostered democracy, as "openness in government has always been thought crucial to ensuring that the people remain in control of their government." He had gone first to the Eighth Court to compell notes between Hillary and her counsel in the presence of White House counsel and won that one. He then proceeded to go for the Assistant counsels testimony which is how the US court of appeals got involved.
There is lots of precendence for this type of testimony and my guess is that the Democrats will play that to the tee.

I wont take sides as I dont have an affiliation with either group. I also have no delusions about the press being left or right wing - they are all led wherever their CEOs want them to go. I do know that there is not an un-biased news organization out there and its funny to watch their affiliations swing.

until people stop complaining on boards and actually do something nothing will change.

attend a rally, stand up in the streets with your btrothers and sisters of america and initiate change.

more action needs to be taken instead of talk

WTF is that? Don't make extensive requests for documents when holding confirmation hearings for a lifetime appointment to the nation's highest court?

You weren't appointed emperor Dubya.....if there are skeletons in Roberts closet the Democrats have every right to dig for them. The republicans in congress blocked a hell of a lot more of Clinton's nominees than the Dems have filibustered during the current administration.

This is fucking ridiculous.
Many...if not most...of the "documents" being requested are protected by the attorney/client previlege and the Democrats know this...but will beat the administration over the head with it...anyhow. Just polictics as usual...nothing new here.

The word "warn" does not appear in the news article. That is not the tone of the actual events.
