Does anyone here have Sleep Apnea?
It seems like I do. I wake up several times a night totally unable to breathe.
A lot of times I'll be having a nightmare of being choked or some shit and I wake up and am actually choking. Basically your airway gets constricted to the point where your breathing is completely blocked and eventually (hopefully) your brain signals that something's not copasetic and wakes you up. Not only does it make you feel tired all the time ('cuz you never really get a good night's sleep) but it can cause strokes, heart attacks and death. So now I'm going to have this sleep study where you go to a clinic and are monitored all night to see how many incidences of apnea there are, etc. Then they can prescribe a CPAP machine (basically forcing continuous air into your airway) or surgery to remove soft tissue in the back of your throat. Has anyone here been treated successfully for this? |

The other thing is my jaw is all out of alignment and they say that's one of the main causes for sleep apnea, but I think the jaw surgery would be really fucking risky. |

Hmmm, I was a fat ass, had apena, lost some weight and it went away.
I've never heard of a skinny guy having it...but the cpap machine might be what you're looking for. It seems you may have a very serious case. |

My brother has it pretty bad. They removed part of the extra skin in the back of his throat (don?t remember which parts), and he sleeps with the forced air machine at night. However, he is overweight and had a lot of extra tissue in his throat, so a lot of people can get by with just the machine.
He went thru the night clinic too. Good luck with it. |

It really wears you out and yea, I always wake up with headaches and a totally dry mouth, too. I'll do the surgery, anything, it doesn't matter, if I can start getting a real night's sleep again. |

The thing is my jaw doesn't stay in it's socket and I think that's the reason. Like most people's lower jaw has like a normal joint it rests in. My lower jaw doesn't. Like I physically hold my jaw forward during the day, but at night when I'm sleeping it kind of just relaxes back. And from reading on the sleep apnea sites, this is even more of a problem then weight. So maybe I need to get one of those mouthpieces to keep my lower jaw forward at night. I don't know, I'm sure the doc will tell me the options. |

I remember my dad was having sleeping disorder quite similar to that. He often woke up several times every night because of that. He' sjust so lucky that the frequency subsided naturally until it's gone.

Wowsa! I have it but not as bad as some of your chaps.
Yeah, I've read about the surgery. Remove parts of skin in throat, tonsles, and little ball in back, etc, etc. I've heard of the air machines, and all that jazz. For me, there were a number of things that effected it. First, alcohol. For whatever reason, after a drinking weekend, next 2-3 days would give me the 500 choking, falling dreams. Then they would go away. Next, no longer can sleep on back. So sleep on side with one of those pillows, and wake up in drool every morning. GF drove me nuts with the stop breathing stuff, and would always push me over on side or chest how she likes to sleep. Unless there is alcohol, no problems. I will still consider surgery. I am 32, and definately do not like when allergines are in the air, humidity, laying on back, and so on when I have to wake up, NOT gag, and restart breathing again. Doesn't happen much anymore, but when it does, still annoying. I notice it more now when humidity is high, or a lot of allergines in air overnight. I am used to it now, so most of the time I can keep heart rate down, and start breathing, say fuck off, and go back to sleep. When it would happen when I was younger, was a bit harder and would be up for days. ![]() |

CPAP machine is about the only thing you can do to fix it, Surgery is a slim chance of it working at all, Altho there is a new surgery where they put some kind of surgical pillars in your soft pallet to help it from closing up your air way...
I have almost a deadly case of sleep apnea and i wont wear the CPAP machine fuck that thing its like trying to breath with your head out a car window doing 90mph.. |

you can get sleep apnea from being overweight OR just how everything in your throat area formed... Basically, go to your regular doctor and get a refferal to a sleep disorder doctor or neurologist who will then send you to a sleep lab to see if you have it and how badly it is if you indeed have it...
there are tons of things you can do: lose weight, use a CPAP or BiPAP Machine which uses pressurized air to keep your throat open, get tissue on your soft palate removed, get your tonsils out, have tissue in your throat removed using this weird radio frequency thing, wear a mouth piece... and apparently they are developing some kind of implant they stick in your soft palate that the skin grows around. either way, its a pain in the ass but worth it... ive stopped and started treaments, and I wish I hadnt. good luck! |

I have it really bad too, and i have just been told of a new procedure that is being done in new york. They stick a microwave probe down your throat and shrink the tissue in the areas that are giving you the problems. I have my doctor getting me a referal to this doctor to see if it will work for me.
