CHINA DEVELOPS MIRACLE HIV DRUG (link)

http://www.rednova.com/news/health/1...linical_trial/

"Anti-AIDS Medicine in Clinical Trial
A new HIV/AIDS medication developed by a Chinese company and aimed at preventing the HIV virus from entering immune cells is undergoing clinical trials.

After four-years of research Dr Zhou Genfa, chairman of the Tianjin-based FusoGen Pharmaceuticals says they have developed a vaccine which functions as an HIV fusion inhibitor.

"Normally, the HIV virus invades the human body by fusing the cell's membrane," said Gao Fu, microbiology research institute chief of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, speaking at yesterday's forum on new HIV/AIDS medication in Beijing.

"So the key is to safeguard the 'gate' and prevent the occurrence of membrane fusion," he said.

The new medication is able to target HIV membrane fusion protein and prevent the virus from attacking cells. AIDS patients and those who are HIV positive will need to be injected everyday, said Zhou said.

Zhou said he had been inspired by T20, the first drug in a new class of fusion inhibitors developed by a company in the United States which was granted marketing approval by the US Food and Drug Administration in March 2003.

But, he continued, his medication, which has been registered as a new medicine with the State Food and Drug Administration, employs a totally different molecular modelling.

And its price will be "significantly" lower than T20 which can cost US$20,000 per patient per year, he said.

The new medication is likely to hit the market at the end of next year.

Cuba is also highly advanced medically. There have been rumours for years that they have cures to many cancers but cant sell them due to the American imposed trade embargo.

Maybe communism countries do work!

Doesn't mention any clinical trials.

Something like this could actually do more harm than good if it worked 100% of the time. It would just be a reason for people to not be safe, or to lie about their HIV status. Then before you know it half the nation needs to be on it.

If Cuba had a cure for cancer, they'd sell it to the world and go from poverty to riches overnight.

I'd love to see a cure and/or preventative treatment for HIV and cancer in my lifetime.

Only problem is the drug companies in the US. They do not want to cure people... they want them to suffer as long as possible and depend on their drugs.

Ya, most drugs in America help you just enough to make you feel better, but leave you sick enough to keep going back for more. It's all about money.

The drug companies are all over a drug that keeps you hooked. There is no money in a cure.

Ethics and drug manufacturers have never met one another.

They should spend that time on curing cancer, instead of hiv which is PREVENTABLE.

Its a small % of hiv positive people that got the virus involuntarily. I don't feel bad for someone with a disease they could have easily prevented catching.

However cancer is a different story.

Ill give you my freinds ICQ and you can explain that to him.....

His partner of 17 years (and my best friend) died last week of an AIDs related illness.

He, like many others would benefit from this... and I dont think one of them caught it "voluntarily"

If they were having unprotected sex and that's the way they caught it then they aren't really "victims" either.

It's sad that people can die from sex, but it's also a reality. I think the point Cherry is trying to make here is that while AIDS is bad, there are far worse things out there killing us that maybe deserve more time and funding because it can hit anyone and everyone regardless of "life choices."

The way you live will have an effect on your health that goes for cancer too. Many cancers are a direct or indirect result of choices.

No one deserves to die.

We can put a man on the moon but we can't destroy disease?

The key word being "many," in your statement there.

AIDS is a majority of the time a direct result of choices. Sure there are the people who caught it through tainted blood etc, but for the most part it's a choice in lifestyle whether it's sharing infected needles, or unprotected sex.

And no, no one deserves to die. Illness is just that, illness, not a sentence, punishment, reward whatever.

I think thats what they want. Imagine a large portion of the population needing a drug to survive which they have to pay $10,000 a year.
