CLEANER XL vs. ADOBE PREMIERE PRO....Encoding WMV's -
Will I get better quality wmv's from using Cleaner XL over the Premiere Pro encoder? I know how to change the bitrate settings and other adjustments in Pro but can I get a smaller file size and higher quality clip using Cleaner ?

I've never been as happy with Premiere's encoding...
XL on the other hand is tight, one of the few pieces of trial software I've used that I'd actually buy. |

Cleaner XL hand's down.
Unfortunately for me when I upgraded OS, something was a miss with .NET, so I could no longer use it. But was using it after the DV rip, and it was a beauty. So if you have the choice, XL. |

I use the original.
Windows Media Encoder,,,, plus, it's free and made by the company that made the codec.

XL fo sho!
Barefootsies... I think your problem has something to do with a check that the program performs when it launches. It looks to see if another copy is running on the network and then won't start if there is. It might also verify the serial number if connected to the Internet.

Actually, I don't think you're going to get a smaller file or anything. As long as the codecs are the same, the file size should be the same. The advantage of using XL is the slew of features that it gives you.

There have been a few versions of .NET since the 1.01, and I did manage to track that down as well. None of it worked, so I just switched back to Premiere for the encoding part. Still a shame. Definately a noticable difference. Thanks for the info though! |

I pulled a 30 sec, or 2 min DV AVI, then ran it through all of them. Not just once, but a few times. But looking for quality differences, and file size. With 5+ minute clips need to keep quality, but obviously do not want 5 gig clips. xvid got the smallest in file size, decent quality. Very close to DviX in quality, but the dviX was a bit bigger. Then also tested with Premiere, versus XL, and was a VERY noticable difference. So ran a few small clips through, and then larger, also took them. Burt to DVD, and watched. SO if you have XL, definately use it! |
