Webmasters better start looking for a "back up" host.

If 2257 comes down as hard as some think then a lot of webmasters are going to bail from their host and some host will have to close.

Why?

I was working with some ideas to comply with 2257 and almost nothing I did seemed worth doing. If I get rid of thumbs then I will be paying about 75% less for bandwidth. Guess who loses on that deal. But my banners will most likely suck so how will I make enough money to keep paying for hosting even with less bandwidth? Also if I go full softcore with thumbs that link to softcore galleries and softcore tours then non-adult companies don't have much grounds to not host me. Guess what; non-adult hosting is too too too cheap if I can get it.

Conversions mostly likely will drop IMHO.
Yes there will be less hardcore for free but I do think that hardcore pictures hook the surfer and eventually gets the sign up. Getting hooked on softcore seems like a long shot.

Super cheap MoFo's will never sign up no matter what we show but they do provide a steady stream of traffic to trade. These cheapos may not surf as much if they only see softcore. Moderate cheapos will surf less too so less chance for them to finally get to the site that converts them.

I can hear the arguments about that already but consider that the reason hardcore was posted in the first place was to make more people surf the site and surf for longer.

I just don't see people surfing my interracial site for very long when all they see is interracial couples hugging when they can go to the Hun and get hardcore.

I'm just not seeing how sponsors with 1000's of hosted galleries are going to look at the galleries and match the models back up to their documents and get all the 2257 info in place. They got the same model working with four photographers and they need to match the shoot to the photographer if they actually post the correct custodian of records. Plus some sponsors don't even have this info(anymore if ever) and photographers may not give a shit or even be alive to provide the info.
I suspect a lot of galleries will simply be pulled.

Sooner or later they will start loosing money, and that has nothing to do with 2257;

Higher and cheaper internet speeds, better technology and better server software which anyone with a little computer interest can figure out, will result in companies (and porn webmasters) moving toward own hosting.

Until you are digging the holes in your front yard to install the line yourself you will be at the mercy of the telecom companies.

As long as the telecom companies are running the show there will be no 'self-hosting' on the scale that adult bandwidth can burn through.

Btw, private customers are already offered 1GB lines in Sweden for prices as low as 120-150$ per month. Same in Japan.

There is more to adult biz than TGP.

There's paysites, link lists, freesites, search engine sites, other various types of sites, Dude, tgp is small in comparison to how many other sites there are out there. Admitdly, yes TGPs burn the most bandwidth per site (usually) but there are many clients burning just as much if not more doing oher things. There's always text based tgps as well. Lots of people burned mega bandwidth with them. Your "the sky is falling" demeanor about losing hardcore thumbs is rediculous. Have you ever actually ran a TGP before? Text is more productive. Sure thumbs generate more "clicks" but is it as productive as text clicks? NO. Most thumb tgp's send their traffic away on the first click anyways and only get back the same quality of traffic. Poeple with straight up text based TGPs do damn well.. now back to the loss of ahrdcore, big deal. If you know how to sell a product (which msot TGPers don't and simply rely on hardcore freebies to chance the sale) you would realize that just simple text like "Like this girl? She's hot isn't she?! Click Here to join and see the living crap fucked out of her in explicit ahrdcore videos and pictures!"

Surfers do know how to read you know..

Oh, and for those thinking that a cropped softcore thumb is fine, think again, if it used to be en explicit photo before being cropped, it's still subject to 2257.

Guys the sky is not falling, just evolve and make the best of it.

Sure it's a pain in the ass and a major invasion or rights and privacies but in the long run will weed out all the chicken little's and leave more room for people who know what they are doing.

What does our hosting company have to do to comply with new 2257 rules? Does anyone have links to good posts and reading material, specifically for hosting companies?

I thought new 2257 regs only have to do with content providers and TGPs, etc. If I understand, it is only my customers that need be worried and liable, not myself, correct?

Should I consider buying some rack space in offshore data centers for my adult industry customers?
