Webmasters better start looking for a "back up" host.
If 2257 comes down as hard as some think then a lot of webmasters are going to bail from their host and some host will have to close.
Why?
I was working with some ideas to comply with 2257 and almost nothing I did seemed worth doing. If I get rid of thumbs then I will be paying about 75% less for bandwidth. Guess who loses on that deal. But my banners will most likely suck so how will I make enough money to keep paying for hosting even with less bandwidth? Also if I go full softcore with thumbs that link to softcore galleries and softcore tours then non-adult companies don't have much grounds to not host me. Guess what; non-adult hosting is too too too cheap if I can get it.
Conversions mostly likely will drop IMHO.
Yes there will be less hardcore for free but I do think that hardcore pictures hook the surfer and eventually gets the sign up. Getting hooked on softcore seems like a long shot.
Super cheap MoFo's will never sign up no matter what we show but they do provide a steady stream of traffic to trade. These cheapos may not surf as much if they only see softcore. Moderate cheapos will surf less too so less chance for them to finally get to the site that converts them.
I can hear the arguments about that already but consider that the reason hardcore was posted in the first place was to make more people surf the site and surf for longer.
I just don't see people surfing my interracial site for very long when all they see is interracial couples hugging when they can go to the Hun and get hardcore.
I'm just not seeing how sponsors with 1000's of hosted galleries are going to look at the galleries and match the models back up to their documents and get all the 2257 info in place. They got the same model working with four photographers and they need to match the shoot to the photographer if they actually post the correct custodian of records. Plus some sponsors don't even have this info(anymore if ever) and photographers may not give a shit or even be alive to provide the info.
I suspect a lot of galleries will simply be pulled.

Back to traffic trading: Surfers are not going to suffer thru blind links and circle jerks to get more softcore.
There will finally be a reason again to go to the porn video store and rent some shit for $1.95...and copy it.
