I FEEL GREAT! My sternum hurts a little bit but other than that I'm cool. Apprarently it's very important to know how to fall and I don't know about the fighting part yet but when it comes to falling, I must be a natural because they loved how I was falling down...My brain got jarred a few times in my skull but the headache was short lived.

I was so good with falling that they taught me a throw today. I learned the "O Goshi" throw which is basically a major side hip throw....Judo isn't about lifting the person up in the air to throw. It involves swinging them in a circle and using balance.

And you learn shit that is useful in the streets on the first day! I can easily see how throws can be adapted on the street by grabbing the shirt instead if a "Gi" and grabbing the throat to exert force during a foot sweep instead of balling the shirt up into your fist.

And you get great exercise...I was sweatin profusely just after the stretching exercises. My ass isn't used to shit like that and I NEEDED this.

Man I feel great...that two hours was food for the soul. I can't wait until tomorrow.

I wrestled in high school and took a little taekwondo in college but taekwondo ain't useful for SHIT. Sounds like the fighting bug has bit ya bro. If you are going to be in Florida, I'll bring my gi and we'll roll! Did you get a chance to check out http://www.judoinfo.com yet? Great stuff in there, throws, animated, etc. As you know, any technique to become muscle memory takes thousands of reps. I got me a spar pro, that I put a gi on, and took one of my belts and used it for arms. You can practice kazushi pretty well on it.

Most serious martial arts require "spar points" or something similar to move through the higher ranks. It's not unique to Judo.

yeah I scoured that website a couple of months ago...there isn't a whole lot to read about Judo on the internet and I was surprised..

But the BJJ guys are right...You can punch and kick all day but once somebody trained gets a hold of you, that's your ass....One of the students is a fully BLIND green belt and he fights DIRTY.....

What is unique to Judo, as well as Muay Thai, BJJ, Boxing, and other combat sports that rely on points, is 100 percent alive training against someone doing the damndest to get you before you get them. You can't find that in TKD, most forms of Karate, Kungfu, etc.

One of my instructors in British Columbia, Canada was a Masters BB Champion. He was showing me some serious dirty judo. The lapel hand, make it a fist, and when doing kasuzhi, punch with it, into the guys jaw when doing the throw. LOL. Fucked up shit. Very easy to use in real life.

You're absolutely right about that. On the other hand, you can pick up a lot about mental discipline and proper technique from other martial arts. They're not all together useless, that's all. Not to mention, 99% of people that get in to street fights have no training what-so-ever. Any training is better than no training.

Most street fights end up in a clinch, meaning two persons in each others grappling space. Guess whos' gonna get thrown in that, not the judo guy.

Yes, and no. I have mostly striking training with some submission and grappling. I have some pretty wicked knock out punches. I guess my point is you have to know SOMETHING about striking, or you can end up in just as much trouble as not knowing anything about the ground.

Case in point, give me someone with 6 months Judo training and I'll give you back someone with a broken jaw in under a few minutes

Ahh, but you are talking about boxing. Not some esoteric form of which kung fu flavor of the month style I'm training in today shit. Of course that's gonna be more effective, you hit and someone hits you. Thats how your train.

Judo doesn't train for someone punching at them, that's it's inherent weakness, it's a sport. BJJ on the other hand, trains for kicks and punches, for the take down and subsequent submission.

6 months of BJJ, is a different story, it's still has more of it's combat roots. But I agree, 6 months of Judo isn't enough. A blackbelt though, whoa watch out.

Yeah, no doubt. I took Seikado first as a kid until Brown Belt. After that I boxed on the Indian Reservation in North Vancouver followed by a few years of Muay Thai. The only useful things from the Karate I found were some of the pressure points and the mental discipline.

It's two hours a day on monday, tuesday, and wednesday. They have an open class on Saturday and a Tai-Chi class on friday. So I'll be going at LEAST three times a week if not five.

I dont' have a job so I don't have shit else better to do. In fact, they invited me to come along with them to a tournament this Saturday so I can see it in action..A couple of them feel that I'll be good in competition. All you gotta do is be relaxed and have a positive attitude...They also said that I take instruction well....Fuck, I'm PAYING for the instruction out of my own pocket so I'm damn sure gonna listen.

I can't wait until my first tournament.

No this is my second week. One of the dudes was already trying to prep me for a tournament by putting me through Randori yesterday with a green belt and I did pretty good. I got him down twice again today.

Taking falls and fighting and exercising is great for your testosterone level. It's like when I finish practice and see the girlies outside I just want to hump everything in sight. But on the flipside, Judo helps you gain some control over your penis and the workout in Judo is a good way to work off some energy and you won't fiend for sex as much.

My body is already responding and I am already fitting my t-shirts a little better because my stomach went down a little and my chest is toning up more and it's shaping up my manboobs to where they almost look like real pecs... By July, I'll be in pretty good all around shape just in time for the heat of the summer and all of those YOUNG HONIES that are out of school.

Those of us that have remained over the years face bad knees, shoulders, and backs to thank us for the hundreds, some thousands of hours on the mats.

You can't get any better unless you train to fight. You can't live without training, all to prepare you one day if you need it, to fight to live.

Bring your gi if you make it to SFLA this year. We'll find a spot on the beach and roll.
