Maybe its better to say both are great states. They each have pros and cons and its just the pros and cons you prefer that make one better than the other.

Some other important missed points

California - Clubs close at 2 no open containers in public

Florida - Clubs dont close and walk around with whatever you want.

California - $1,000,000 buys a shack with no view
Florida -$1,000,000 buys a house on the beach or Intercoastal.

hmmmmm

i went to hs in fl and although having a beach around was nice, it wasn't the be all and end all. once you hit a certain age, you become old age during spring break at daytona or lauderdale. no fun left after that.

now moving to ny and now being at the shore in nj, that works. why? because i get all 4 seasons. i can see 14 ft of snow on the ground one month and then come warmer weather, i can head 15 mins east to the beach (which was absolutely beautiful this weekend).

i will take 4 seasons over hurricanes (which i have lived through), mudslides, wildfires, sinkholes and earthquakes anyday.

Sun sets over the Ocean.

Ocean actually has waves and surf.

From my home in Pasadena CA - I am one hour from the beach, one hour from desert, one and half hours from ski slopes - few places in this world offer this diversity in such a small geo circle.

Love those beach pictures.
Why is everyone saying it is more humid here? That guy posted numbers, I presume facts; but it does not feel more humid here!

1. its not humid in CA. FL is just like anywhere in the south, sweat city.

2. earthquakes are nothing, most of us sleep right through them.

3. i measure nothing by strippers, they're just sluts that are harder to get with.

4. girls, right, FL has nothing on CA in that regard.

5. waves, I grew up at the wedge, not one place in Florida can compare, then you can bring Zuma and Mavs into that argument.

6. the geo circle, we have surf / snow / desert .. and then we're about 5 hours from Vegas, Phoenix, and 3 from Mexico (When we feel like getting smashed for cheap). Of course Floridians can always swim to cuba, lolol.

For me..... I lived in San Diego for 4 years, LA for 8 years, and Miami for 5 years.

I'll take Miami.

1. I LIKE the tropical weather year round. Gets too cold in Cali for me.
2. No State Income Tax (in other words add 7% to your income)
3. Earthquakes give no warning....you have a week with hurricaines
4. You can still afford to buy a house here....only 17% of californians can afford their own home now. Housing prices are almost TRIPLE in Cali.
5. The ocean is much cleaner and much warmer...also much calmer, which makes for bad surfing, but great boating, scuba, snorkeling, fishing, etc... and you can do it YEAR ROUND.
6. Compared to LA there is NO traffic.
7. Center of the western hemisphere, easy flight to West coast, East coast, Europe, South America, Africa, etc.... Cali is closer to Australia and Japan.
8. Going back to boating (since I have a boat), there are SO many more places to go, both on the intercoastal, in the Keys, Bimini, the bahamas, the dry tortugas, etc....

Just my own thoughts/opinions.

4. girls, right, FL has nothing on CA in that regard.

.
1. True, but in California you just get baked alive. The temp in my driveway out there once hit 134 degrees. Florida is year round in the 70's most of the time. I've lived in both and the weather here is nicer.

2. Earthquakes are nothing? You've never been through a big one. I was 3 miles from the Northridge quake in 94 and that felt like a nuclear bomb going off. Everything in my house got thrashed.

4. Sorry but Florida has just as many babes as Cali does.

California.

1. Beaches have surf, the water might be a bit of a wake up call, but at least in August you don't feel like you're swimming in someone's toilet.

2. Mosquitoes and other bugs. Florida is full of them, Cali is not.

3. Humidity. Whoever posted the humidity in LA versus Tampa, that's bullshit. Compare Riverside with Tampa and Miami with LA.

4. Traffic. Miami has traffic just like LA does. Hell, Toronto has worst traffic than LA or Miami when you take into account the fact that there's not a single pedestrian out wandering around in the winter to slow the right hand turn lane to a complete crawl.

5. Beautiful people. Both cities have them. Miami is a culturally diverse mix based on Latin American immigrants, LA, San Fran are culturally diverse mixes based on Asian immigrants. BOTH have Mexican immigrants, and while Cali probably has more, watch A Day Without A Mexican before you talk shit about the Mexican immigrants anywhere in this country.

6. Accessibility. Cali is definitely the winner there. You can be in Vegas in around an hour from most of Cali, Phoenix is less than an hour from Socal, not much further from Norcal. While you can certainly head to the Caribbean from Miami much more easily, you can get to Tahiti, Fiji, Hawaii and anywhere else in the Pacific Rim from Cali non-stop, no so from Miami.

7. Variety. This isn't a Norcal versus SoCal thread, so when you add up the twoCals, so to speak, you have SUCH a variety of cultures, locations, weather, opportunities and variety it is not even funny. Show me the Florida wine country. Show me the Florida ski slopes. Show me the Florida desert.

8. Boating. Yes, it's probably nice in Florida to take your power boat out for the day and cruise around. I'm sure that it is. But Cali is home to more boat races than Florida, hell this weekend we've got the Newport to Ensenada -- the largest ocean race in the world, with people like Roy Disney and Dennis Connors sailing against the rest of us common folk. We've got Transpac this year, Newport to Cabo was last month, MdR to Puerta Vallarta was a couple months ago, and the list goes on. When we take out boats out, we take our boats out ;)

I'm sure there are plenty of people that love Florida, and they should stay there.

Actually, California sucks ass. No one else should visit here or ever think about moving here. It's horrible. Don't come. Maybe one day the state will break off in an earthquake (not possible due to plate tectonics but fun to say anyway) and we'll be floating around off the coast of the US. We'll also be the 6th largest economy in the WORLD when we do, so we don't really need anyone else here to up the tally and the real estate prices. ;)

yea indoors with the a/c on.

9 months out of the yr in FL its at least 85 to 90 degrees and thats not factoring in the humidity which makes it feel like a steam room.

california has the 70's temp yr round cept sept and aug when it gets hot.

I was born and raised in Florida, and now live in Mexico. About 20feet across the border. I am in SOCAL all the time.

And I would take Florida any day over florida.

1. Yes it actually rains in Florida, therefore it is green most of the year.
2. You do not have to remove dust from every thing that you own.
3. With a big rumble, Florida will not fall off of the US.
4. Yes we have hurricanes, but we also have hurricane parties.
5. Far less people die in hurricanes than in earth quakes
6. Cost of living is far less
7. Disney WORLD is almost 3 times the size of Disney Land\
8. Water on Both Sides of the state. Surf on one side, and enjoy the warm water on the other.

But right now, business is here, so I am here.
