California.
1. Beaches have surf, the water might be a bit of a wake up call, but at least in August you don't feel like you're swimming in someone's toilet.
2. Mosquitoes and other bugs. Florida is full of them, Cali is not.
3. Humidity. Whoever posted the humidity in LA versus Tampa, that's bullshit. Compare Riverside with Tampa and Miami with LA.
4. Traffic. Miami has traffic just like LA does. Hell, Toronto has worst traffic than LA or Miami when you take into account the fact that there's not a single pedestrian out wandering around in the winter to slow the right hand turn lane to a complete crawl.
5. Beautiful people. Both cities have them. Miami is a culturally diverse mix based on Latin American immigrants, LA, San Fran are culturally diverse mixes based on Asian immigrants. BOTH have Mexican immigrants, and while Cali probably has more, watch A Day Without A Mexican before you talk shit about the Mexican immigrants anywhere in this country.
6. Accessibility. Cali is definitely the winner there. You can be in Vegas in around an hour from most of Cali, Phoenix is less than an hour from Socal, not much further from Norcal. While you can certainly head to the Caribbean from Miami much more easily, you can get to Tahiti, Fiji, Hawaii and anywhere else in the Pacific Rim from Cali non-stop, no so from Miami.
7. Variety. This isn't a Norcal versus SoCal thread, so when you add up the twoCals, so to speak, you have SUCH a variety of cultures, locations, weather, opportunities and variety it is not even funny. Show me the Florida wine country. Show me the Florida ski slopes. Show me the Florida desert.
8. Boating. Yes, it's probably nice in Florida to take your power boat out for the day and cruise around. I'm sure that it is. But Cali is home to more boat races than Florida, hell this weekend we've got the Newport to Ensenada -- the largest ocean race in the world, with people like Roy Disney and Dennis Connors sailing against the rest of us common folk. We've got Transpac this year, Newport to Cabo was last month, MdR to Puerta Vallarta was a couple months ago, and the list goes on. When we take out boats out, we take our boats out ;)
I'm sure there are plenty of people that love Florida, and they should stay there.
Actually, California sucks ass. No one else should visit here or ever think about moving here. It's horrible. Don't come. Maybe one day the state will break off in an earthquake (not possible due to plate tectonics but fun to say anyway) and we'll be floating around off the coast of the US. We'll also be the 6th largest economy in the WORLD when we do, so we don't really need anyone else here to up the tally and the real estate prices. ;)
