| after the first time you fall/crash ask yourself if you really enjoy riding. if you get back on and ride then you'll understand how different and dangerous a bike is. i got my license just after i had my bike accident. i broke my ankle and messed up alot of smaller bones in my foot, but i got back on after 3 months when i could finally move my foot fully and now i'm riding for 4 years. take your time, learn how to control your bike and learn how to respect other people on the road and just how dangerous they are. then you can have some fun |

 | I'd learn on a dirt bike, or an enduro to start. If you drop it, you won't have to spend $2000 getting it fixed. Also, find a deserted area to practice when you do get the CBR, like a subdivision that isn't finished yet, or a mall parking lot. That's how I learned. I also took the MSF course down here in Tampa, FL. You learn a lot from them, plus you use their bikes. |

 | I actually had my motorcycle endorsement when I was 15 before I got a drivers license haha. Crotch rockets are cool to look at, but they suck for comfort so yea I stick to cruisers. Besides they are just targets for speeding tickets. |

 | Several here have voiced the "they scare the shit outta me" comment. To those people, I have to agree. I have ridden bikes, more notably, Harleys, for the last 30 years (yes, I've been licensed the entire time). Even here in Mexico, I hold both licenses, car and bike. Being "afraid" isn't the correct word. I think what we all are is "highly respectful" of our bikes. We KNOW what they're capable of doing to us. We have also acquired the ability to "think ahead" of ourselves, while driving. Bikes are not like cars. Things happen much quicker on a bike. Momentum, mass, all things have to be "relearned" on a bike. Bike weight causes even more changes. The highways and streets are littered with people who 'know how to ride' and don't think the learning portion is important. If you're ready to be hurt, probably badly, just go to the stealership, pop down the cash, and ride the bitch out and forget all the rest. I see "know-it-alls" every day, laying beside the road, moaning "Help me." Shit! The only help they need is to have someone screw they're fucking heads on STRAIGHT!. As for ricers, I don't appreciate my head being the front bumper. Or, some bitch laying on my back while I drive. HARLEYs ARE the ONLY motorcycle! |

 | I had been a biker for fifteen years, and shortly after moving to AZ I went to get my license. I attended a two day motorcycle safey course. I learned something new there that changed my motorcycle riding enjoyment forever. Take a motorcycle safety course first.

 | Take the MSF class, you can waive the DMV riding test if you pass. Make sure you get some good gear. Insurance will be high(comprehensive) if you are young. Watch out for drivers. Its not if you will drop your bike, its when. Gluck. |

Typical dumbass ricer comment. You think a helmet is going to save your life? Well, if you don't mind being a vegetable for the rest of your life. As for your other stupid comments, yeah, I have had ricers (and yeah, that is what you are, live with it) go speeding past me, but I hav eyet to meet one that is willing to race from say LA to Daytona Beach . . . probably because their bikes wouldn't make it.

well, i have ridden sportbikes for over 35 years, and now ride a hayabusa. i have 100's of thousands of miles under my belt riding high perf sportbikes. and they ARE dangerous. and i always know a guy is an amateur rider if he rides without protection. there is only only one positive impact of states that do not have helmet laws---it improves the human species in those states---because it allows the less intelligent to kill themselves off faster, during their prime reproductive years.

Most accidents happen at intersections at less than hiway speeds, and that is when a helmet protects the most. You could be doing a u-turn and drop your bike (and dont even say it cant happen), hit your head on the ground and die from it. I have no problems with wearing helmets, being an ex-racecar driver I know that you dress for the crash, not for the ride. And here comes my favorite quote: "The funny thing about common sense, is that its not very common"
