I live in Mexico, and do design work, but mostly mainstream. The other day, someone was trying to take one of my customers right in front of me. They were telling her that they cold do her site for 2/3rds the cost. They said that they are cheaper, becuase they use Mexican designers and programmers. She told them that she would think about it, and get back to them. They left her a flyer, that she handed to me that had 3 misspells in english, and very poor grammar. Not that mine is the best, but it checked before delivery!!!

I just got a paysite design delivered to me by WebInc.
It was expensive and I had to wait in line for a month before they started working on it, but HOLY SHIT, am I glad i went with them.

Nothing to do with being scared. Total BS. It has to do with keeping our jobs at home and supporting our own economy. No question the quality can be as good. However, it is annoying to talk to some guy or girl that has serious problems with English.

Buy American. Thats not a new concept here in the States.

We use a Russian guy and he speaks pretty good English .... but sometimes he sends over some funny text on his designs ....

Just out of curiosity what do you guys think is good pay for a full time web designer in Russia ... in US dollars per month? I wont say what i pay him but i want to see if I'm on point ....

Scared of what? Foreign outsourcing is OK for some things but I sure as hell wouldn't hire them to do anything English-speaking surfers will see. I guess I am a little scared...scared of foreign outsourcing people making me look like an idiot with their barely passable understanding of the English language.

i got a great designer that does my galleries pretty cheap, every time i always have to give him the new text to change it to. i'm still pretty happy because a good gallery designer that can get something done in a day or two and isnt booked is hard enough to come by.

Everyone outsources, outsourcing does not mean leaving the country, it means having someone that is not inhouse do the work for you.

Spelling errors in design work is inexcusable. I have an Indian doing coding for me, and he does very good work, but luckily I can go back and clean up his spelling errors because I do not have to open a psd file to do so.

I would never have a foreigner do any kind of text work for me . . . there are few people that speak English fluently that I would trust with my text work however.

I get all my text work done by the guys from WebmasterLabor.
They are from Phillipines but speak English better than 90% of people on this board.

I no longer do design, but honestly I was never afraid because of the quality and the horrible "engrish."

I even partnered up with someone out of the philippines who lived here in Vegas but had a shop there, and out of 20+ there were only 2 designers that were really good, the others were okay but had potential.

However the issue was not just quality, but that they didn't understand the concept of adult design. That is something you can't always teach no matter how hard you try.

There is a flow to adult design, there are reasons text is placed in certain areas, certain types of images are used and usually what I got back from my filipino guys were designs loaded down with a lot of imagery but no substance . Even after 7 months of training only a few began to grasp it.

There are also time zone differences, and not to mention issues of trust.
Take a look at how the 2 larger, or should I say spammier outsourcing companies have both had issues where others tried to take over their business...yes that's exactly who I want to trust with my proprietary information, my company's more important plans.

Overall the biggest competitive "edge" that outsourcers had was price, but in the end the great thing was I usually ended up with their customers anyway, and because of the horrible experiences they didn't haggle with me about price.
