Why are gas prices so high? Bush? The Saudis? The Illuminati? WTF?
Well, maybe not the Illuminati but seriously folks... WTF? All I see in the news is, "Gas prices at record highs!" No real explanation why is ever included in the reports.
Didn't we just conquer a country with plenty of oil? Weren't they supposed to have reserves that would pay for the occupation and liberation? Something fishy is going on and someone better start answering some fucking questions. ![]()

Gas prices have been cheap cheap for years..
Most bottled water costs roughly the same price and its 1000 times easier to get. Gas must be trucked out of the ground as oil , shipped thousands of miles to then go through a costly refining process , and then be shipped thousands of miles again to the gas pumps. I bet if i went into the ghetto of any big city and offered $10 to carry 5 gallons of gas across town , i wouldnt get anyone to do it. Conclusion , gas is hard to get , we should be lucky that the west has been able to artificially deflate prices for as long as they have been. You could always run your car on hemp oil ( its cheap and easy to produce and is a renewable resource ) ![]()

Oil companies just make more money + more taxes involved in several countries.. It's simple as that. The cost of oil to the oil companies itself is the same like it was a decade ago.

Seems to me advances in equipment and technology would make gas/oil easier to produce and distribute.

China plays a part, though our lack of building any new refineries has not helped at all.

How many cars are built in America doing less than 5 miles to the gallon? Far too many. Why? Oil is a World resourse that every other country knows is in limited supply - They produce highly optimized engines that give good miles to the gallon ratios - And charge high taxes for purchasing this limited comodity. Yet Americans whinge like fuck over 2 bux a gallon prices when other countries are paying up to 10 bux a gallon. |

Gas prices are not high, they are insanely low. Look at Europe where $5/gal + is normal. American foriegn policy has kept it low in North America but the real cost is going to present itself. I personally can't wait... $5/gal would be better for everyone and would certainly help the economy function more realistically.

Manipulation.
Remember back to a few years ago when the western states, in particular California, had blackouts - there was talk about not enough energy, too much use, etc ... when in the end it turned out the real cause to be manipulation. Yes, oil is limited, but it's telling how the energy companies are posting record profits. Finally, on the bright side, if gas prices go to like $3 or even $4 (not totally out of the realm of possibilities), perhaps many folks were trade in their damn SUVs for something smaller - at minimum opt for the smaller cross-over vehicles; glorified stationwagons quite really, which is cool in that they're easier to see and park around than the all those supersized SUVs. Or even better yet, many people will drive less leaving more open road for the folks who don't mind spending $3, $4, or even $10 per gallon if it opens up the highways. Ron

The dollar dropped ~30% in recent years, so there you have a huge chunk of your rising oil prices.

Right now, bush is making plenty on the oil, as that is where most of the family money comes from.
and before you complain too much about the price of gas, take a look at the price of milk. more than 3$ a gallon.

If you want to think about something funny: Gas prices at the pumps jump up almost instantly after news that crude oil prices increase. However the gas at the stations already and on ships at sea coming over are not affected by the oil price increase... so why do we pay more for that gas?
Anyhow, that's life if you can't afford gas kill yourself. |

Interesting. I have gotten used to paying $1million lbs per litre of gas in Yurop but low prices are supposed to stay low in the USA. That's why we take over countries and pillage their oil pumps... isn't it?

If I sell apples at .05 and and order and sell 10 a week that cost me .03 each, which makes me .20 profit. Then I hear from my distributor that the next shipment of apples will cost me .05 cents each should I keep my apples currently at .05 until I run out then reorder at .05 or should I raise my price to .07 each to offset the next orders cost which would run me .20 more? |

Get used to it folks - the high price of petroleum products is here to stay - so it's time to get rid of all those big gas guzzling ego boosting piles of crap and buy a pregnant roller skate.
And it's not about refinery capacity - at the moment it's all about the capacity of the producing countries to get it out of the ground - but that won't last too long. Eventually - within our lifetime - it will become a matter of having nothing left in the ground to pump out.

And.. Gotta agree with The Other Steve - the days of "cheap" gas are over. It's too scarce a resource. But.. On the brighter side, at least for US folks - gas is a lot cheaper in the US than many other industrialised countries where substantial taxes are added to gas prices bringing these to double or more at the pumps. This is sometimes part of a "conservation policy", but, ya gotta be cynical and assume it's govt's bleeding more taxes from consumers. BTW... Water is going to be the next scarce commodity - it already is in some countries :-)
