Alright, heres my question about links, will links out to sites help the site that is linking to the sites? For example, if you have a site that sells food, lets call it food.com, and you sell several types of food, say perishable and non perishable, and within those perishable and non perisable main pages you have hundreds of links out to the main product, will it help the rank of your main page to provide links to all the main food products, or do the links from the main food products have to link back to the main page?

In other words, can you link food.com directly to several food items to help food.com's ranking, or in order to help the ranking of food.com would all the links from the individual pages have to be pointing to food.com?

Shoehorn,

As few outbound links as possible on every page. You can make a page or two that has lots of related outbound links with good anchor text. A ?resource? page (or pages) like this sometimes does real well in the Search Engines. I wouldn?t want to lose the PR on many pages by leaking through links on every page.

Go to http://www.meanseo.com Free Tools and links for SEO, SEO Programs, newsletters, and valuable links.

Google, for one, looks at your page as a whole as well as who links to you and who you link to. To put in a nutshell (no pun intended): If your site is about vegetables (just narrowing down your food example) ...

- If the sites that link to you are about food, good. If they are about vegetables, better. (We are assuming in both cases the inbound links contain "vegetable(s)")

- If the page these external links come to is titled, headlined and obviously about "vegetables", good.

- If the links on your page (both internal and external) are mostly related to food, good. If they are about vegetables - including specific ones - better.

If you look around the net a bit you'll find good articles about search engine theory and if you can get through the techno jargon, it's quite simple to figure out what SE's like Google look for in ranking pages. The content of the page, obviously, the text links coming to your site, and who links to you.

If you score high in all 3 you'll do well. Even if there is no money in SEO

goal is to have as many incoming links as possible without recip'ing them directly back.

thats just the basics i know, and working on anchor text is important

Good tip to doing this is doing a A > C, B > A recip linking structure.

e.g. Site A links to Site C, and Site B links to Site A. I own Site A, Site B, and the other person owns Site C.

This way, your optimized site (being Site C) gets the 1-way anchor link.

Google's algo now looks for "unusual" linking structures in an attempt to pick out links designed essentially for building ranking/PR. I'm not certain, but this linking structure, if over-used, will raise a red flag with Google.

I've found that it's best to set up incoming/outgoing links as a navigation menu. ie. set up the links both physically and visually as any site navigation menu would. Then plug in a few sites into the nav that have no outgoing links - these will be the ones you want ranked high in SERPs. The "feeder" pages and sites should enjoy a share of the PR spread among them but the "target" pages will get it all w/o giving any back out.

So far, works fairly well for me.

It helps only if you are important to the sites you are linking to and what pr they have... google is the system and all parts are very tied

Don't agree that XML feeds are any good - Google is pounding sites with similar content. GoogleGuy has gone on record stating they want to eliminate aff sites which have similar products etc

GoogleGuy said this, said that, and resaid this , bla bla bla

If GoogleGuy tells you to jump off a bridge to get rank 1 for your keyword , you will do it? Probably ...

This guy do a lot of misinformation to fuck with ppl, and it work it seem.

If you believe all what GoogleGuy tells , you are a retard

Btw, I never said it was aff sites XML feeds.

GoogleGuy also said at one point that expired domains would reset the PR. It took months for this to actually happen. I tend to believe GoogleGuy is the best way to misinform webmasters out there, too many people believe into the hype without anything more other than his word.
