i have a canon digital slr that does over 10mpixel and without something as simple as proper lighting, the whole shoot is pointless.. and when i say proper lighting i dont mean a few more then the normal lights that are on, you do need special lighting and reflectors etc etc etc...

i'd never shoot with a standard digital camera.

edit: i'd never shoot content that i'd intend to sell without the proper equipment... keep that for holidays...

Thats a good little cam.

I have a Sony 5 Meg the pics are good but its slow to snap them which is crucial during a money shot. So I'm going to look at other brands and probably get a 8 meg but the 5 meg quality is there. And as far as lighting look into a light kit with 3 stands ,2 for regular dome with Tungstun bulbs and the other a reflector with a flood light thats what we use it works well, Good luck

canon g5/g6 would be a good camera for starters.

a95 is just fancy: compact, folding lcd, etc etc.. but no hot-shoe.

I have a s50 which is a g5 in a compact body, I'm using it only for family pics.

Why did you wait until after you had purchased it to ask if it was suitable?

Unless you're planning to print the pics, or your members have huge 2500x2000 pixel screens, the number of megapixels isn't really relevant - that's just a marketing ploy that most consumers fall for...

Being a compact camera it has a smaller sensor and cheaper optics, so it won't compare very well with SLRs such as the Digital Rebel posted in this thread. The major problem with compact cameras is that smaller sensors usually show more noise in low light. They also have a tendency to bloom (light leaks into adjacent cells) and show purple fringing where there is a rapid change in contrast. You may also have problems with red eyes because the flash position is very close to the lens.

If you can afford a better camera, take that one back and buy a digital rebel. Of course if you're going for the amateur look then it's probably fine.

every camera is a compromise, and just about any camera can take a good picture under the right circumstances.

however, the original poster's camera will only take good pix with plenty of light (outdoors usually) due to small f/stop. consumer camera = amateur pix, not saying this is bad, just the these cameras don't have much flexibility.

a chimpanzee can take a "pretty good" outdoors shot with this camera.

pro level pix will require some sort of controlled lighting (strobes) which is a whole different subject.

for shooting content to sell this camera isn't going to cut it.

can someone point me in the right direction to buy a light kit???

i realize it wasnt the smartest thing to do lol... but hey ya gotta start somewhere... everyone makes mistakes... i learn best by trial and error.... mostly error haha either way if i buy a light kit it should be okay right ?

the amateur look might help since its a solo girl site...
