just bought a new camera

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_..._front_blk.jpg

im planning on using this for the stills of the girl im shooting this week... will this do? its a 5 megapixel camera..

i just tested it out and it had great quality.. however... is 5 megapixel enough ?

foxxx 01-25-2005 10:32 PM

it's not the size that counts :/
when will people learn...

decient photography takes more then the camera...

hit up google on photography... :/

sonofsam 01-25-2005 10:34 PM

i know that.. i'm just saying once i do learn to take pics properly... will this camera do ?

foxxx 01-25-2005 10:34 PM

i have a canon digital slr that does over 10mpixel and without something as simple as proper lighting, the whole shoot is pointless.. and when i say proper lighting i dont mean a few more then the normal lights that are on, you do need special lighting and reflectors etc etc etc...

i'd never shoot with a standard digital camera.

edit: i'd never shoot content that i'd intend to sell without the proper equipment... keep that for holidays...

sonofsam 01-25-2005 10:41 PM

in order to have a decent shoot , do i right away have to invest in crazy lights and reflectors?

Carmensita 01-25-2005 10:42 PM

i need something like that

sonofsam 01-25-2005 10:43 PM

carmensite, actually judging by the webcam pics u DO need something like that, now can i have a fansign? ;)

reynold 01-25-2005 10:43 PM

That is one cool camera you have there.

sonofsam 01-25-2005 10:44 PM

thank... now any answer as to the lighting question?

Thats a good little cam.

But have you check out either the Nikon D70 or the Canon EOS 300D / Digital Rebel

Yeap :) I want a Rebel and some lights to play around with for a few months before I start thinking about shooting models.

woj 01-26-2005 12:11 AM

Don't waste your time shooting content with that camera....

sonofsam 01-26-2005 12:17 AM

sharpx9 01-26-2005 01:01 AM

nice camera. you should be very happy with it :thumbsup

DirtyDanza 01-26-2005 01:07 AM

I just got one of those in NYC in dec when I was at B&H I like it great camera to carry around with me... I use a 10D for all my shoots

Big Red Machine 01-26-2005 01:07 AM

I have a Sony 5 Meg the pics are good but its slow to snap them which is crucial during a money shot. So I'm going to look at other brands and probably get a 8 meg but the 5 meg quality is there. And as far as lighting look into a light kit with 3 stands ,2 for regular dome with Tungstun bulbs and the other a reflector with a flood light thats what we use it works well, Good luck

AaronM 01-26-2005 01:24 AM

People should do some homework before buying cameras.

flashfire 01-26-2005 01:59 AM

that is a killer camera, should do nicely

PHPdude 01-26-2005 02:47 AM

that must have cost a fair bit, we got like a 1gb card to and it is only 2 megapixel

I agree, good for home use but not content....... :Oh crap

flashfreak 01-26-2005 03:27 AM

canon g5/g6 would be a good camera for starters.

a95 is just fancy: compact, folding lcd, etc etc.. but no hot-shoe.

I have a s50 which is a g5 in a compact body, I'm using it only for family pics.

Why did you wait until after you had purchased it to ask if it was suitable?

Unless you're planning to print the pics, or your members have huge 2500x2000 pixel screens, the number of megapixels isn't really relevant - that's just a marketing ploy that most consumers fall for...

Being a compact camera it has a smaller sensor and cheaper optics, so it won't compare very well with SLRs such as the Digital Rebel posted in this thread. The major problem with compact cameras is that smaller sensors usually show more noise in low light. They also have a tendency to bloom (light leaks into adjacent cells) and show purple fringing where there is a rapid change in contrast. You may also have problems with red eyes because the flash position is very close to the lens.

If you can afford a better camera, take that one back and buy a digital rebel. Of course if you're going for the amateur look then it's probably fine. :)

brand0n 01-26-2005 11:07 AM

what did you pay for it?

Der Schleicher 01-26-2005 11:09 AM

Great Cameras... Now go buy some films :1orglaugh

MandyBlake 01-26-2005 11:15 AM

take a picture with it and upload it so we can see it and we can tell you if it looks good or not

macho 01-26-2005 12:00 PM

PowerShot A95 is very good camera for beginners!

latinasojourn 01-26-2005 12:37 PM

every camera is a compromise, and just about any camera can take a good picture under the right circumstances.

however, the original poster's camera will only take good pix with plenty of light (outdoors usually) due to small f/stop. consumer camera = amateur pix, not saying this is bad, just the these cameras don't have much flexibility.

a chimpanzee can take a "pretty good" outdoors shot with this camera.

pro level pix will require some sort of controlled lighting (strobes) which is a whole different subject.

for shooting content to sell this camera isn't going to cut it.

i was just lookin at the sames camera a couple weeks ago, how do you like it? :)

sonofsam 01-26-2005 01:57 PM

can someone point me in the right direction to buy a light kit???

i realize it wasnt the smartest thing to do lol... but hey ya gotta start somewhere... everyone makes mistakes... i learn best by trial and error.... mostly error haha :) either way if i buy a light kit it should be okay right ?

the amateur look might help since its a solo girl site... :)
