Actress Sandra Bullock made headlines after donating $1 million to the American Red C

http://www.pulse24.com/Showbiz/Top_S...3-002/page.asp
I am calling World vision right now to shoot some bucks. Not a million though. Not yet.

You mean she paid $1 million to have her name in the headlines.

Please don't think that this isn't a self serving publicity stunt at the core.

This has probably already been brought up and posted, but if al-Qaida claims to be
the "World Islamic Front for Jihad......." etc crap. Are they donating for the tsunami victims ?
Wasn't a majority or large percentage of the people who perished of the Muslim faith?

It's better then Micheal Jackson's Pudlicity. At least the money is going somewhere good instead of making lawyer's rich.

Of course, but there's always an ulterior motive with these celebrities who all have a team of publicists waiting in the wings.

As much as I believe she did it out of generousity... who cares? She still donated over 2 million dollars to the red cross... How many other celebrities have done that?

It's not about looking for the bad in anything. It's about seeing things for what they truly are.

Yeah, she may be a nice girl. She donated...just like millions of others. But let's put her name in lights.

The Hollywood Express stops for no one.

What's most important, getting money to the people or not? If that means that some people will get headlines, so be it.
The more headlines about the tragedy and rich people donating = more rich people donating and more exposure which will make more people donate.

My first thought when I heard about something similair couple of days ago was the same as some people here - respulsive, how can they exploit the situation to get some "free" ads?
But who the fuck cares, it's more important that money is raised than being ideological.

I used to do volunteer work on donations.

You want high profile names to donate money and you want to publicize it heavily. It drives other high profile names to donate, as well as driving general donations. We would have VIPS donate large sums and ask to remain anonymous. Almost every time we asked them NOT to remain anonymous, as we needed to publicize their donation. They generally agreed once we explained it to them.

I watched this happen last night on the NBC fundraiser. Merck donates a million. Pfizer donates 2 million. Then another company donates 1.5 million. Sure, they want the good will publicity. But there's also truth that they are people and wanted to do something to help. The good news is, none of the starving children care WHY the money putting food in their mouths came to be there.

Whatever the motivation, there is absolutely no downside to her donation. None at all.

When a celebrity donates a large amount of money, it should be made public. It encourages other people to donate. Nothing but good can come of this.

so true, i really cant see the downside to her giving so much money either. Even if she does get her name out there more its not like people dont know who she is already. Having famous people donate and have it known in turn has people who look up to them donate, its just how it works.

Don't sweat it. This kind of background noise silliness is common to every major donation drive. A certain group of people think that the motivation behind a donation is as or more relevant than the donation itself. It's not. No one running this drive cares why Bullock donated the money.

Those who make noise about this type of thing generally are not donating time or money, and have no credibility.

The fact of the donation is all that matters. For example: the amount she donated could provide healthcare kits to over 630,000 people. These are kits containing rehydration tablets, water, and high protien biscuits. 630,000 people. The people on the ground watching men, women and children die only care that what they need to prevent such deaths arrives. They could care less if the arrival was because a celeb wanted some publicity. In fact, their response would be: "I sure hope 100 others are similarly motivated."

Add in that from personal past experience, her donation is probably worth 3-6 million in donations from other VIPs, and you start getting into the realm of helping millions of people.

The why of the donation is simply not as important as people starving to death, or children dying of dysentery. Well - unless your values are unbelievably screwed up.

Islamic donors don't donate to the same western organizations you are used to seeing in the news, so they often don't get counted or mentioned.
