You do realize with the visa thing that you don't have to go back to your home country? So if you're in a country that requires a three month visa. All you have to do is go to a neighboring country for a few days and then return. That's how I'm going to do it when I move to Ghana. I'll just hit Nigeria for a few days and re-apply for my visa there. Or you can always file for a visa extention within the country that you're visiting.

In you live only 3 months a year in a country you usually dont have to pay tax.
So my plan is to live in the Netherlands for 3 months. 3 months in Belgium (one hour by train to my hometown) 3 months in Brazil and each year 3 months in a "surprisecountry".
This is what I intend to do starting in 2005.

slapass 11-26-2004 07:16 AM

I love Rio. The cost of living is low. The girls are beautiful. The visa stuff is easy. You can stay one day under 6 months and it is good for 5 years.

Do not walk the beach at night or in the rain. I bring my digital camera everywhere. If I am drunk or uncomfortable I get a taxi. It is sort of like living in the inner city of a major city in the US.

Try something like south brazil. Heard it was one of the best place in Brazil (not Rio).

You should talk to Nastyrat from nastyrat.com. Hes a nice guy too and live in Curitiba:

If you want his ICQ, then I can send it to you.

Good luck with your plans :glugglug

This scheme won't help you avoid taxes.

With this scheme you need proof that you actually were where you said you were. Hotel bills will do the trick.

Problem is, you must be able to explain how you were able to PAY the hotel bills.

= = =

If you're an American citizen, forget it, you'll have to pay wherever you reside.

If you leave the U.S., you can live somewhere else and they'll leave the first 70k, above you have to pay.

It takes 10 years before you're not obliged to pay anymore.

Yankee Scum 11-26-2004 08:34 AM

my solution is a disclaimer for my site.

Anyone interested in becoming a Panama-resident & -citizen?

Combine that with around 8% interest on basically a SAVINGS account, interest paid
monthly..? ("Certificate of Deposit", minimum $100,000 & 1-year term)

Then check this out:
p-wos.com

I know I sound like I'm spamming but I'm not.. just dropping some helpful stuff for
people looking to do what I will later... To live with no need for work :glugglug

Taking this route is one good step to allow both Yourself & Your money to "flow free" :Graucho

AnalProbe 11-26-2004 03:32 PM

I can't recommend Panama, for different reasons.

Diligent 11-26-2004 03:38 PM

You mean the living-part right? I guess it's far from excellent..

How about assets/banks, bad also? I'm thinking that part looks pretty ok.

Calvinguy 11-26-2004 04:17 PM

I would look at Gibraltar . Climate is nice, people speak english, small taxes and if you get homesick it's quite close to home.

BRISK 11-26-2004 04:23 PM

Why not Australia or New Zealand?

You won't find anywhere much hotter than Australia, and in New Zealand $1 USD = $1.40 NZD

We are in Mexico 6 months out of the year, and the exchange is about 11.35 right now. Cost of living is pretty good. But gas is about the same as in Cali.

hate to say it, but like most of latin america, costa rica is a slum.

and blame the natives.

can't pick up after themselves.

in comparison, southeast asia is much cleaner.

for folks being poor, bangkok is one of the cleanest big cities in the world.

and san jose, costa rica, is a pigsty.

Probono 11-26-2004 08:14 PM

Since you are Dutch why not look at the Netherlands Antillies?

i was in Europe (Madrid, Barcelona, Roma, Amsterdam) and think is wonderful, still love my little Montevideo.
