Time to Profitability??

I have heard various people state the timeframe before they started making serious money. The norm seems to be 6 months.

Any of you guys/girls want to share your experiences? If so, be sure to specific tgp, paysite, etc.

Are there any websites that started making serious money within 1 or 2 months? Examples?

for me I was working part time ( approx 15 hours a week ) for about 3 months before I started to make anything resembling money. After those 3 months I was making 700-900 profit a month or there abouts. I then got fired from my day job so instead of getting another job I focused on this and within 6 months was making 5 times that much and have continued to grow since.

That's pretty cool....

Right now I am averaging about $.03 to $.05 an hour!! But then again, I have only had a site up for 1 month and I am going through a complete redesign.

Why? In the beginning, I'd spend more time focusing on learning how to build free sites, avs, tgp, whatever you're going to work with, and I'd build as many of them as humanly possible, never touching them again unless I had to change a sponsor code.

Kimmykim,

I redesigned because the original site really was rough looking and I got many recommendations from this board to do so. It is a paysite. But I do have a handful of tgps and avs which I doubt I will redesign, just from now onwards.

I agree with Kimmy. I see a lot of people that are new using the phrase " my site " what they should be saying is "my sites" and there should be tons of them. not just 1 or 2 but 100-200 for starters. I read an article awhile back about a guy that has over 1000 domains and he has 7-9 free sites and 7-9 avs sites on each domain. which means he has 7000-9000 free sites and 7000-9000 avs sites. . . now thats having sites

another thing, I've seen a lot of new people talking about their paysites. This is something I don't really get. I don't have a paysite ( don't know that I want one ) Tommy from tommy's bookmarks once said that a person shouldn't think about starting a paysite until they personally were able to send at least 20 signups a day to it otherwise it will be very hard to make profitable.

If it were me I would focus on small stuff first

Very, very true. But the way I see it, all those avs, free, and tgp sites only have 1 function = to direct people to "my site". Yes, they are technically my sites, but I don't consider them revenue generators at this time, only as instruments in which to channel more traffic.

If I had two sites, then I would have two seperate, maybe somewhat overlapping, networks of avs/free sites to drive traffic to them.

There is a program called AVS wizard that will pump out websites automatically but the price tag is too hefty for what I want to invest at this time.

I'm somewhat of a newbie so forgive any fatal marketing errors I may committ

Unless you've got a decent member base built up who require updating regularly, I'd set the pay site aside for awhile and learn how to get and manage your traffic.

That paysite could be a total dog and with enough traffic it would be profitable. The flip side of that coin is that the most beautiful, built to convert and retain site in the world, wont make it off a few hundred, or even a few thousand, hits a day.

If you simply set it aside, until the time comes that you are ready to make it productive, you won't lose anything as far as $ spent on content or design, etc -- right now I'd say redesigning it without traffic is just not a good return on investment.

I work with one of the large third party processors and while we love to see paysite owners, I wouldn't personally tell you something I didn't believe to be the way to go, and getting a handle on traffic is much more important to you long term I believe.

I guess the big question to ask yourself is this: how many members do you have and what is the retention length of your site. I just checked your site out ( the on in your profile) it's pretty good, a good niche to work in but you are charging $25 a month. How much content are you offering for that much money. As compared if someone joins drunk slut ( lensmans site ) they pay the same $25 and get full access to 7 big sites. But if you your site is converting and retaining members then you might want to stick with it. If it were me I would do as kimmy says and set it aside for a while focus on building small free and avs sites and such that you use to drive traffic to sponsers. Make a few $$ for yourself. Then when you have a decent amount of traffic that you are able to send to your sponsers, start sending that traffic to your site and you'll be able to get more members and make some $$ off of it.

The redesign looks really good and is very unique but its not up yet. Thanks for the nice comments though on the old design. I plan on turning that old design into a free or avs site with reduced content. The current design is very maintenance intensive. The new design will be virtually on autopilot so that I can focus on driving traffic which as you pointed out is a very important factor.

The reason why I charge $25 is because 1) its niche and focused, and 2) because I know another webmaster who has a similar niche (coincidence) at the same price with a similar amount of pics (but different images, lol) and he is gonna make 6 figures this year (site less than 1 year old!), and 3) I have some damn good unique video feeds. Publicnudity.com...nice, nice looking site...same price. I pulled out my wallet. But I have to say that less than 25-30% of the inside content has to do with the theme!

You see...I don't have to do free sites with sponsors because I don't really need money. There is a cap to how much you can make doing free sites with sponsors because it is labor intensive. Money is not the driving force behind this as this is an experiment for me. If this site takes off, then I will open a dozen sites with focused niches. A properly built site (IMO) with a good marketing foundation results in residual income.

I know my current site is a dog and it doesn't convey what's inside. That is why I am not converting any of the 3k uniques I have now. I am having eroticopy.com write the text for the new site. IMO image and copy are the keys.

How much have I invested so far??? $2,500 That's all.

Wow, this sure got off the topic!

Is your girlfriend willing to get naked on camera & take requests? If so you can usually count on less than 30 days til profitability.

I say this only because we owned a site called collegecouplecam back in the day & the margins from day one were unreal.

Ya, I'd have to agree with the consensus here - paysite is NOT the way to go for a newbie. If you really want to have a paysite type thing, start with a premium AVS site. It will recur a HELL of a lot better, and depending on the AVS, you may even get signups from the link list.

And yes, you probably should build as many sites as you can. Everyone has a different methodology.. AVS feeders, free sites, DMOZ sites, you name it, it's all good. I'm going for as much traffic from as many sources as I can get myself.

As for "AVS Wizard" - if such a program exists, please do tell some more.

Cheers,
Backov

I was just getting ready to send you the link but I saw your signature. avsblitz is what I was talking about. Got it confused with TGSW (thumbnail gallery submission wizard).

On that note, don't you think $1,500 is a bit much!!!
