Unless you've got a decent member base built up who require updating regularly, I'd set the pay site aside for awhile and learn how to get and manage your traffic.
That paysite could be a total dog and with enough traffic it would be profitable. The flip side of that coin is that the most beautiful, built to convert and retain site in the world, wont make it off a few hundred, or even a few thousand, hits a day.
If you simply set it aside, until the time comes that you are ready to make it productive, you won't lose anything as far as $ spent on content or design, etc -- right now I'd say redesigning it without traffic is just not a good return on investment.
I work with one of the large third party processors and while we love to see paysite owners, I wouldn't personally tell you something I didn't believe to be the way to go, and getting a handle on traffic is much more important to you long term I believe.
