There seems to a number of people lately that are just being plain assholes to people and that's not what this board should be about... I realize some are 17year old punks, that think they are cool by dogging people, but it's not.

I'm not saying that there's not a time to be a asshole, but just cause someone is a newbie, doesn't mean we need to slam them every time they ask a question.

There's all this talk about ethics, unions, and crap... Well, I think maybe the 1st place we need to start is by helping out the new people coming in to the biz.

first off, I don't know why ANYONE would be so mean in the first place - we work in the PORN INDUSTRY - what's NOT to be happy about?!

but if you ARE unhappy, you don't need to rub it off on everyone else (and make them miserable too) or scare away newbies that are just looking for some HELP (not HELL)

granted, I can see why experienced webmasters would get upset
newbies asking "what sponsors work best?" etc
and they're saying to themselves..."yeah, I wish it was THAT EASY when I started!"

if they don't have anything positive to say, they shouldn't answer!
they don't have to be mean about it

and maybe it WOULD'VE been that easy if they would've just ASKED! (like the newbies are)

Credit where credit is due. When I was brand spanking new in this industry (all those many years ago) and I didn't have a clue what I was doing I started emailing around the different TGPs asking to trade links with my then pathetic excuse for a TGP.

Lisa Marie was the only one that replied and in fact she replied from both the TGPs she was running at the time. If she hadn't replied and been so kind I would most likely have given up.

So what if its a bit easier these days. It just means there are more of us trying to give back some of the help we were given.

But I think in this biz all of us are newbies. Maybe newbie in TGP, CJ, LinkLists, SE traffic, toplists, paysites, freesites, AVS and stuff. I'm webmastering for more than 4 years, have toplists for more than 3 years but I'm a newbie in lots of stuff.

Just read read read, pots post post (think before posting) and don't be a asshole.

Bullshit, Most new people I try to help just quit after a few weeks. They dont listen to a fucking thing I tell them on ICQ. And by the looks of it...they dont take the advice of established webmasters...cause they QUIT after a few weeks! Ya, true, but when I ask a serious question, I search and listen to what has been said before. You got people starting sites called Freehun and shit...then asking "who wants to run a high traffic site?" or "How much money you guys make?" Give me a fucking break! How many times do I see a thread titled "Dialers" I bet if you put that term in the search function, you could come up with a whole fucking books worth of info about dialers and dialer sponsors. You have to admit that there are a lot of "help me get rich, im too lazy to research" questions being asked. Ya, and I know...I dont have to respond to them...most of the time I dont...I just do it for the fun of it!!!

5 years in the bizz and daily I spend at least 60 minutes answering newbe q's. No problem, but I am not explaining it all, to see a competitors' dialer on their freaking page, or try to help them and get an answer like: "... Yeah, this is my second week and the programmer of the script said it is not possible, I see you DID do it, how did you do it.."

Buy a BOOK (a pile of printed emails or faxes for those of you who forgot what they look like ), read tutorials etc. first.
If 5 years ago somebody told us everything, we would be rich in a week, in stead of trying ourselves and LEARN.

Serious newbee's don't ask stupid questions or reply to their own thread all the time. Bet you they are gone after the leather jacket

Just my take, but I don't find a whole lot of "newbie-bashing" going on that isn't well-deserved here. Some, but not all.

I recall when I was first getting started nearly 3 years ago -- Although I've never been one to take any shit, I was none-the-less wide open to taking advice from other more experienced webmasters. Never once do I recall bringing attitude to a board and alienating everyone on it with what I think as opposed to what the more experienced people know. I tend to take a "shut up and listen" stance when I first arrive at a new information source, and after I feel more confident about what I know and what I can offer, THEN I venture to offer my input. I still ask for help if I need help, not matter how "experienced" I think I am. It's just good business.

Few things are more infuriating to some than a newbie that is here to teach us all how to run things, or a newbie that wants us to help him by doing all his work for him (or her). My standard reply to newbies that ask me for help is not a nasty negative reply, it's more along the lines of "okay, I'll help you, here's what I think you should do" and I tell them straight up that this is going to require work work work on their part. I got no free rides thus far. I did get help from a few great people, but nothing was ever handed to me. I had to learn html and the in's and out's of webmastering all on my own, and it takes time and commitment, especially when you're starting out with zero computer knowledge like I had.

Wizzo is completely right, some people's responses are a tad harsh and reactionary, and a little understanding wouldn't hurt. No one likes to be called a cheating stupid moronic asshole, but most people don't mind having the error of their newbie ways pointed out in a polite manner.

It's when the newbie starts arguing with you that get's me going, especially if they are trying to defend stuff like "use of public domain content" etc.

To be honest, and after being a mom, I can understand where some people are better off not helping. I would imagine that after years of the same old questions some person's might get irritated to hear it again and again, the point rage made about the search is a valid one, I'm sure it does'nt get utilized like it could.

Then too, back to the other side...
If someone else would rather help the Newbie's that has more patience and can do it without feeling like they are losing something in the offer, then they should do so and put the GFY BBS best foot forward for everyone's sake.
I personally dont mind helping anyone that I can, at anytime that I can.
Course, Midnight accuses me of being one of those, "blow sunshine up your ass", kinda happy to be alive people as it is anyway.
