gmail does a good job so far

From a total of 15 spam emails

gmail put 14 into the spam folder by itself

and it left all ~100 non-spam emails alone

Why yes, I do. They are my AFFILIATES! i.e. they make my company money and if I don't confirm my email address and they don't get usernames/passwords/information, that doesn't help me OR them.

Are you saying when you get a Spamarrest confirmation email from one of your affiliates (or anyone you work with for that matter) you don't go and confirm it?

If you're an automatic mail confirmation program like a processor uses, then no, it wouldn't get confirmed. And the thought of a processor paying people to sit around sifting through emails to find out which clients use something so stupid is a colossal joke to me to tell you the truth.

It's just like using popupblockers on your own computer and running a tour with pops on your site.

The irony is just incredible.

And no, I don't fill in the spamarrests for the most part. I won't support a system that's potentially causing chargebacks and credits, something that affects my wallet.

if i have a webmaster using it..i would certainly respond or most likely just call them up and keep those talks to the phone.

Spamarrest and all the other verification "products" out there.

You support a system that makes it impossible for your members to get their confirmation emails, which include their passwords and other important information, emailed to them, UNLESS they just happen to be looking for an email from the processor.

Hello, the processors don't answer those verification emails, they don't have any way to answer them. So all the people using those services end up without their confirmations half the time, if not more.

It's the most foolish thing I've ever seen. You work in a business that NEEDS to email the paying customers automatically but you personally use a system that disables that process.

Sigh.
Praise the lord!

This issue has been bothering me for a few years now, and so many people still use those services.

Well, considering many of the owners of large programs use one of the web based filters, I don't have that luxury

I see what you're saying and I agree, but there's no way I could not get info to the people who need it.

So, I shouldn't use a popup blocker because I make money with popups myself? IMHO there's a big difference between promoting it and using it. We've never promoted any popup blockers to surfers but, of course, I use one myself.

From our experience about 10% of the webmasters use services like spamarrest. If we didn't confirm the emails it would affect our wallet.

I use SpamArrest for all my e-mail, it's a great solution and unlike other people I dig thru my unverified folder daily to authorize e-mails like those from sponsors.

These days not one is caught in my unverified folder anymore, it's just a matter of time coz once it's authorized it's done period.

I don't get your hate on an ingenious system that actually works

Delivered...

Spam filters are a real problem. About 6 months ago, our ISP implemented them on their mail servers, and switched them 'on' by default without telling anyone.

I only found out because of ICQ - a webmaster I've known for years wasn't able to get through to me via email.

OK, I'll go slowly.

You've got a surfer who uses such a product. He buys a membership from your site. He doesn't remember his username and password that he signed up with. Nor can he get it from his email inbox since he never got it in the first place. Automated systems DO NOT AND CAN NOT confirm with the stupid pages. And if you think that a processor is going to hire people to sort thru every email that comes back to them with a verification request, then you can add 3-4% to the rates you pay them to do so.

This is not an ingenious system that works, this is a system that keeps surfers from accessing things they've paid for unless they are smart enough and aware enough to specifically look in their dump folder for an email from the processor that your site uses.

Get it now?

You support a system that makes it impossible for your members to get their confirmation emails, which include their passwords and other important information, emailed to them, UNLESS they just happen to be looking for an email from the processor.

Hello, the processors don't answer those verification emails, they don't have any way to answer them. So all the people using those services end up without their confirmations half the time, if not more.

It's the most foolish thing I've ever seen. You work in a business that NEEDS to email the paying customers automatically but you personally use a system that disables that process.

Sigh.

can we see your tits?

The sad thing about spam is that they have gone the wrong way with fighting it. Stopping the mail from getting into the box, is a good idea, but how about going after the guys that make is possiable in the first place. Like the guys that are making the 30k + zombies a day.

Nice thread Kim.

Happy B-day

Its just one of the many double standards here. Talk down on fat chicks and get flamed and laughed at when you sleep with one. Get called scum because you mail but the person who called you scum has a sponsor in thier sig that openly supports spam. Talk about which popup blocker works best but the next thread is dedicated to talking about bypassing xp sp2's popup blocker. The list goes on and on.

Oh yea, if sponsors want to reach the inbox of aol, hotmail, yahoo etc they should replace all thier text with an image that has the text. That way the spam blockers can't block out "free" "sex" "password" "welcome to" etc.

How about that?

Kimmy Kim is trying to tell us that programs such as spamarrest is fucking up things for credit card processors. I'm sure they are. And we (webmasters in general) promote such programs.

Spamarrest exists because the adult internet has fucked up the average surfer's email by clogging their email with crap they'll never look at.

And we (webmasters in general) are the cause of that.

Gmail is crap IMO, We got a lot of clients using it and they can't get FTP, Order Confirmation, Newsletters from us.

Just sent out a newsletter that just said Content Update at www.paulmarkham.com and very little else.

Was over two hours doing the confirmations at spam arrest and spam blocker, seems the previous newsletter were just being tagged as spam.

Also had lots fo new orders over night from customers who did not get the newsletter before.

Spam is hurting this business in many ways and nothing seems to stop it. The day emails are no longer free is the day the problem will go away. Make those who want to send out 1 million emails a day pay for it and you will see them disappear.

Huh?

I'm certainly not complaining about spam, hell I get so many a day it's nuts. But I am complaining about people that support software and systems that take money out of their pockets, especially once they realize it.
