If you did not know...it is not really a debate at all. Bush made Kerry agree that all questions be pre-approved and pre-scripted. Both parties also signed agreement after the Ross Perot inceident that no other parties will be allowed to debate. So basically you will see who is a better actor since the people asking the "questions" all really stooges that are just reading what they are told.

So much for democracy....only in America!

Kerry will make much better points, it wont even be close. Then Bush will sitthere like a wholesome dumbass and half the people will still like him. Kerry will get bad because he knows he won the points but only won half the crowd, then he will get shitty and lose the election.

If Bush gets a whole sentence out he won. That would be with a subject and predicate. What he has to do is not make any big mistakes. That's just the way it is wether we like it or not.

Bush has already won the election now. Kerry would have to come up with history making quotes and still that might not be enough.

Idea! Bush walks on stage in Flip-Flops.

Bush almost didn't agree to the "town hall" style 2nd debate because he was concerned they would try to slip democrat supporters in there to ask questions instead of the supposed partisan voters.

These debates have been custom tailored for what GW does best. Regardless of Kerry's performance I predict the talking heads on Friday's news shows will be calling GW the winner.

Scripted or not Bush will still have a hard time getting his message across. I think Kerry has a real big advantage with these debates.

Better Idea! Kerry walks on stage in flip-flops, then blows Bushy out of the water by defusing and redirecting the flip-flop issue and hands over the flip-flops to old dubya before leaving the debate...

here, these fit better on you Mr President...

now THAT would be smooth haha

I know that no one here seems to have a memory longer than one year, but Bush always does VERY well in debates. He won against Gore, against Richards, etc.....

When the media can't just edit the sound bites to show his gaffs, and he is not reading a speech, he is a very good speaker with a good grasp of the issues.

I don't know why I'm bothering to post this, since none of you will believe it.

*sigh*

never mind

Actually he's very good at reciting speeches. It's when he has to think on his feet that he gets in trouble. I think of the soveigntry clip and the other clip where he told a reporter he would have liked the questions in advance if he knew they were going to ask tough questions.

But fortunately for him the debates are set up so that there isn't too much thinking on one's feet, just recite the proper snippit at the appropriate time.

There is no debate.

A debate involves some "meaningful thought", interaction and actual discussion of a subject.

The US "Presidental Debate" has denegrated into a sound bite facade.

This is part of the general standards of politics in the US - a farce by any standards.

Hear Hear! Last night my husband had a brilliant idea. What Kerry needs to do is to start his opening statement like this:
"I'm here... wait a minute.. (turns to GW) Mr. President, why don't we throw out all these silly rules and just sit down and have a discussion here instead of all this craziness? I'm sure the people would appreciate us just talking about issues instead of reciting little soundbites we've constructed. What do you say, Mr. President?" and then sit back and wait.

There's nothing he can do. He'll sit there stonefaced like he did when he heard about the 9/11 attacks. He can't say, "Okay, let's just talk" because he doesn't perform well in that format and it's too easy for Kerry to attack him about real issues instead of things like being "flip-floppy". And he can't say "No, I need.. er. want to stick to the rules we set out ahead of time." because then he looks like a baby who can't stand up to Kerry and take him on man to man.

AND it would be so delicious for the political junkies like us out there who love the DRAMA!

How's that? You don't think the President of the USA affects our country? Not to mention the fact that 90% of Canadians here get paid in USD, but I'm talking about everyone in our country and most of our industries and natural resources. Do you understand the world at all?

Contrary to what TV news may tell you, politics isn't all about rhetoric and appearances. Some people have interests in things like trade, financial markets, and foreign relations. The fact that you probably can't name (without Google) the leaders of the countries that border you and their opponents isn't something to brag about.

Kerry will make much better points and hopefully bring up a lot of Bush's failures. Bush will call him a flip flopper and say God a bunch of times and the press will call it a draw. He won't fuck up any sentences badly like people are expecting, so people will say he did great. Bush wins based on low expectations.

If you think for ONE SECOND that BOTH parties didn't fight for a structured set up to this you are living in a dream land. Don't be fooled by people that tell you that one side or the other had to be persuaded to set down rules for this event. They BOTH wanted the rules in place.

I still don't understand what is the big deal with that clip. Did anyone with a command of the English language listen to it? In the clip he says....."That is what those tribes are....sovereign. They are sovereign entities. They and the federal goverment should deal with each other as sovereign entities." (I don't have the exact quote, but go back and listen to it.)

the best debate moment ever was Clinton VS Bush Sr. when Clinton turned to Bush and said " It's been 4 years now and the things aren't working. There's still a recession and people are losing jobs and unhappy. Isn't it time for a change?"

Bush could do nothing. It's like asking if your mother knows you're gay, there is no good way to respond. If he says no there is no need for a change then he looks like he's out of touch. If he says yes there is needf for change then he looks like he's failed. Kerry needs to do something like that.
