Colors and conversions?

Hey,

I thought someone posted a topic about how colors, like background colors can affect conversions ratios.

I've used the search feature of this board but can't find that article.

Can anyone help me out?

Peace,
Pete Dogg

Pete Dogg,

Colors and shapes supposedly have a huge impact on your surfers. I don't know about how they help convert though.

I remember learning about it in a sociology class (many moons ago ). Blue is calming, also the fave color for most men. Red is exciting and sexual, etc. I'm sure you could find all of the colors and how they affect people on the web. I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Shapes, I remember. Triangles invigorate, captivate, they can also be a symbol for power, masculinity, strength, aggression. Circles give a sense of connection, safety, femininity, comfort, sensualtity & love. Rectangles symbolize order, logic and security.

This was all from a sociology class though. I use it with my design and logo's, etc. cause they've done so many tests on it, I figure there is something to it. Don't know if actually helps to convert though.

Some interesting stuff. Orange is supposed to make you want to eat, that's why so many fast-food places are orange inside.

Who's going to add some subliminal messages to their sites so we can see if that works?

I was talking with my buddy the other day (Steven, pornqueens, hi-octane,etc...)

and we came up to the conclusion colors DO matter, but Not the way most think...

see, tons of people do good with white bg, me and steve never succeeded much with that..

people say pastel sux, yet my best gallery is pastel purple...

so looking at what works good for us, we noticed a main patern..

on ALL the working ones, we noticed that on those gallery our color choice matched quite well as to make the link and text COME OUT of the page, to be noticed...

I'm sure there ARE factors with colors and shape, but I still believe the most important factor is how the page is layed out and how the links stand out.

Big subject and there are lots of clues in your TV and magazine ads - these guys spend millions on this research.

Red and violet are the big sex colors - pastel pinks and blues for young girls and teens in their bedroom shoots (I know all about this one lol)

Phallic shapes can also induce thoughts - take a look at some female bottled products, yes, thats actually taken into consideration during package design.

Fantasy text lines also work well example - "come put your hard fat cock in my tight teen pussy"

Like I said , its a huge subject and would be nice to get eveyones ideas here.

There was a good article posted here a while back about driving the fantasy through web pages but I can't find it.

I try to use as much as possible the colors of the site i promote so the surfer feel some kind of continuity going from my gallery to the sponsor.
And after all , if that site convert well you should trust what they use

If posting to TGPs the single most importent thing is to get the surfers to notice your textlinks.

Black BG + white text etc works best

I know the golden rule for web site design is continuity but thats not always the case for adult sites. Making a strong statement sometimes requires some color shock.

Place a real hardcore pic on a white background and the focal point can be washed out by the white. Place it on a black background and it will be much stronger to most eyes.

Dom is 100% right. Screw the millions of dollars of research and crackpot psychology (if anything this would only apply to a site at the end of the chain like a paysite) - if you want your sites or galleries to convert twofold better, use the exact same color scheme as the sponsor you're promoting. And along the same lines, I guarantee your conversions will go up if you use the logo of the site you're promoting instead of a generic banner. Continuity DOES matter - what's the point of having your site or gallery stand out if all your click through traffic is going to be wasted because the site you're sending it too bears little to no resemblance to the site they came from? You don't want the surfer to pull back in the middle of his stroking rhythm, do you? Because we all know, if he does this, he'll just go looking for some more free stuff to get himself back on track.
