you don't have to show the guy your reciept when exiting a store

once you complete the transaction and pay for your shit, you don't have to do a damn thing.

i walk right past the costco/best buy tards and just ignore them.

From where are you getting this information?

I'm interested to know.....

Although it's sort of a courtesy thing to show a receipt if they ask, why be an asshole to someone for the hell of it? It's not like security control is a fun or glorious job... so why not give the people a break?

Surely the 15 seconds max it takes to bust out a receipt isn't too much a strain for you time.

Fuckers at Radio Shack wanted my phone number before ringing up my stuff.

So I asked the guy if he had a phone book so I could look up my number and then randomly opened it and gave him "my" phone number.

That was about 5 years ago and have never set foot in one since.

why do they mark it with a highlighter at costco? is that for returns or something? its a pain in the ass at costco because if they're busy sometimes you have to wait in a line of people to get your receipt checked.

on a busy day at costco, it takes far more than "30 seconds"
try up to 3-4 minutes of waiting for nothing.

not to mention that i don't like being treated as a thief

It's hot, but it's not humid.
Today was an absolutely gorgeous day.

A big group of around 15 of us went down to Lake Traves and hung out, drank beer, cliff jumped, barbequed, swam... then after everyone went home and took a couple hour nap a bunch of us went down to Sixth Street and made a night of it.

Austin's been my favorite place to live, and I'll be here a while.
Moving into my first house in just a week too, I'm pretty excited ;)

If you're in town late July you're welcome to come to my HUGE housewarming party ;)

OK if you have to wait 3-4 minutes to "verify" that you've paid for something then I see where you're coming from.

But legally are you sure you can just ignore them if you paid for it?

The searches are purely voluntary in California. They can't involuntarily seach you or your bags unless they have reasonable cause to believe you have stolen something.

If any of thes rent-a-cops or loss prevention retards physically try to stop you when you ignore them...You can sue the company's ass.

That's why I only get a "Hey, I need to check your..." as I zoom right past them.

They can't detain you for no reason.
It's called "kidnapping" and only untrained security guards will attempt it.

I used to work in a clothing store where we had to always ask for the customer's phone number. They did that to get an idea of how many people were coming from other areas and shopping in our store. That way, if enough people were coming from "Point A", they would know that they need to open up a store there.

That's why I generally only give my phone number to clerks if I'm shopping out of town somewhere at a store I don't have close by, but I want one close by.

Just do this. Take one of those sticky things that sets off alarms and put it on the bottom of your shoe. After you check out pocket your receipt and proceed to leave. When you walk through the door and the alarm goes off take off running across the parking lot. When the security guards tackle you and take you in for questioning you will have receipt. Proceed to sue their asses off.

By the way, if you don't think security will bang you up try this at Wal-Mart.

Do you have to show them the receipt?

Maybe not...but in most cities across America they have nuisance laws...laws they can use against you to get you for something.

These kinds of laws they use to target groups of teens, homeless people, ethnic minorities etc.

In other words they could call the police on you for "disturbing the peace," and technically by not complying the police could give you a ticket.

Not saying that it's right..not saying that you should comply sometimes it pisses me off too...just saying that there's always a loophole to fuck with you if they choose to do so...not to mention they could call the police and have you cited for no trespassing that way if you ever return to the store you could be arrested.

The searches arent so much to keep an eye on you, (although they do keep you in check). They're to keep their staff from slipping freebies into their friends bags.
Staff theft is the highest source of losses in retail.

You are only required to show a receipt at membership clubs, Sam's & Costco. You signed away your 4th Amendment Rights when you signed the TOS. I walk by the door peeps at Fry's, etc. because I never paid to enter.

I like to have fun with the security at my local Wal Mart. I only go they for a few things such as deoderant and when I pick it up, I put it in my purse if I notice one of them following me. There's not a damn thing they can do about it unless I go to leave the store. Then they continue to follow me throughout the store so everything I want to buy goes in my purse. Then they get on their walkie talkies n shit, and thats my cue to go stand in line to pay for it all. This really seems to piss them off. They stand there and watch me walk out without setting the alarms off and then I flip em the finger.

The biggest thieves in retail are the employees and security guards themselves.

Good luck suing any security guard. A friend of mine got roughed up at the mall pretty bad and when the police showed up all they did was get rid of witnesses by escorting anyone who refused to leave off the property. The security guy got fired, but the police wouldn't even let the guy file a report. His blood was all over the side of the security truck too, they just washed it off.

The cops made the excuse that they smelled alcohol on my buddy's breath. Of course they did. He had just had dinner at a restaurant and had a beer with it. We stepped out for a smoke and BAM. They wouldn't even test his blood alcohol level, they just wrote him off as intoxicated.

It's not right to give people a hard time at their jobs simply because you want to be an asshole. You'll be screaming unfair treatment when someone makes a big deal of it and bans you from the store. It is not your "right" to shop at any given place.

Do you simply keep walking when you set off the inventory control monitor at the door because you are "certain" you have paid for everything?

This is true, but another function of the inventory control system is to flag which products are not being deactivated during the checkout process. The person at the door logs the # and it is used to update the database. With as many items as a Walmart has and the number of people it must take to enter all incoming items there is bound to be a good size error rate.

I really wouldn't think it a smart move to keep going if you set off the alarm, even if you are certain everything got rang up and you are certain it's on the receipt that you are certain you have in your posession

That way, if enough people were coming from "Point A", they would know that they need to open up a store there.

That's why I generally only give my phone number to clerks if I'm shopping out of town somewhere at a store I don't have close by, but I want one close by.
Its a law in canada to take it now ... But they cannot have access to it . Its in an encrypted database or something . THey probably only use it for taxing information

Then they get on their walkie talkies n shit, and thats my cue to go stand in line to pay for it all. This really seems to piss them off. They stand there and watch me walk out without setting the alarms off and then I flip em the finger.
Ok Im DEFINITLY gonna try that

Ever read those signs that say "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"?

You'll be one of those people that are refused service if you continue to be an asshole that is unwilling to follow their rules.

It's not a personal attack against YOU to ask you to show a receipt... it's store policy. If you don't like the store's policy, don't shop there.
