i was flying back from Miami last spring break and one of the flaps on the wing was stuck. After a few messages about technical problems with the plane, the attendant stated that "he hadn't lost anyone in 20 years and he wasn't going to today". That definitly didn't help the situation

stuck flap is a minor problem, very little risk

stuck elevator or aileron would be much more serious
