The Lowdown: in 3 or 4 months,all SE will be back to the way it was. Yahoo and Google think they can create a new rev. stream that replaces the old. they will soon find out don't fix it if it ain't juicy

Long stroy short: Yahoo and Google are competitors and Yahoo was paying Google for their listings. Yahoo bought Inktomi and now uses this paid inclusion model.

has anyone messed with the yahoo toolbar yet that shows the site ranking? I downloaded it to see what it was all about but it doesn't have a ranking on any sites i've been to. I left it on a couple of weeks and then uninstalled.

Yahoo has never claimed to be headed in the 100% paid lisiting directicion. Yet I see poeple saying stupid shit like that over and over again.

All of my sites are listed in yahoo. I get lots of traffic from yahoo.

I've never paid them a cent or submitted a URL to them.

IF (thats a huge if, thats not gonna happen) they go to a paid listing only model, it will fail miserably.

No. They are inkatomi listings. Inkatomi has crawled my sites even deeper than googlebot for almost a year now. It was even going crazy on one of my sites that had sessions and I had to block it. Its listed almost everhting it crawled. (At least of the stuff I've looked for, there are too many pages involved guess a percentage thats listed)

You can?t count Yahoo out at all. They have partnered with the likes of SBC. When a new customer does a new DSL install, the software forces a personalized YAHOO starting page. There are millions of people that don?t have a clue on how to change their startup page on IE. So by default Yahoo is getting a ton of use, esp for new accounts.

Add to that the web based email service that is bundled with news, weather and the SE for all those new DSL customers and it ads up to a powerful resource for yahoo.

Oh yeah, I totally agree! Yahoo is my homepage. But the way they're doing business is sloppy. Here's an example:

Can't link to it but if you do a
Search in the product section for jack rabbit, it returns kids toys & Sex Toys!

There's other stuff too, and they're getting their act together, but slowly.

Yahoo also bought AV, I think excite and couple more search engines.

From what I and everybody understood from the old press release, they were going to ONLY list sites that are paying .

Surfers are getting smarter and smarter everyday ... Fucking the surfer over is not the way to go and they know that too . Try yahoo vs google right now and tell me who got the best results . Google search algorythm is behind yahoo's one by far if you ask me.
