Thanks! I'm thinking about moving to Northern Cali (Hayward maybe). Is it any good? I mean I've been to cali a few times and I loved it but I really need to gather more info in the upcoming few months.

I want to move by the end of this year or 2005.. I don't want to rush into things. I want to pick up a nice course at a Uni too, as I'm currently studying Business & Economics in Holland. There is so much I need to figure out. I'll probably move with a good friend of mine who currently lives in England. I'll ask alot in the upcoming months about things there. Especially prices. I need to be able to make a list of thing and what they cost. Or else I can't go I guess. Sebastian. |

Im partial to Cal-Berkeley since i'm an 1989 alumni. Berkeley has a great campus, awesome diversity of cultures and ideas, a fantastic faculty and even a pretty good greek system if thats your gig. I also liked Berkeley's location in the Bay Area with San Fran just a short BART trip away and everything from Reno to Sausalito, Santa Cruz, Napa, Yosemite etc just day trips away.
Stanford is more prestigious but also will cost you tens of thousand of dollars more for the four year degree. Their campus is really nice but I found it to be a snobby, elitist student body. Sorta like the Duke University of the West coast. If your talking about a business graduate degree, both Stanford and the Haas B School at Berkeley at in the upper echelon of nationwide schools. Very selective and if you can get into those schools your an academic stud. The Anderson Business School at UCLA also has an outstanding reputation. |

If you looking at primarily for there business schools
Stanford hands down for business... 2nd I would say USC, Cal..... 3rd UCLA, Cal State Fullerton Gotta remember some schools look nice on paper and others look nice but get you into a great network of people... ie USC, Stanford its like a huge fraternity.

Many thanks for your replies so far. I've also found the California State University of Hayward. Is this any good? Are state universities in general any good?

Hayward is alright, as is Chico State (or even Cal State San Francisco, which many folks forget about). But they're all second/third tier schools.
Tier One up in Northern California is Cal and Stanford. Period. Cal will be a tiny bit cheaper, but Stanford will pay off much more extensively in terms of connections. Of course, I'd throw all of them in the crapper and come down to Southern Cal, and the *only* choice down here is USC. The Trojan Family is stronger than any social network you could imagine... I doubt you can afford Cal or Stanford, so talking about them is useless.
Most of the other schools mentioned are in huge metropolitan areas. Do you really want to live in a fucking concrete jungle? Traffic SUCKS ASS! That's why I recommended Chico State (rated the number 2 party school in the NATION by Playboy... and was number 1 several years back). So, not only can you get a decent degree, you won't have to worry about horrid traffic AND you can party your ass off in your free time. |

All I gotta say is stay outa tha east bay...
When considering a college be very careful about where you live...I know fuck all about the college's here...but dude...don't move from holland to hayward. For the love of god...don't move to union city, fremont, niles, newark, or any of those surrounding areas...you will hate yourself for leaving such a beautiful homeland for the east bay.

I haven't finished my uni here yet and I doubt I will ever do. And Stanford does look a bit pricy. Remember I'm only 22 years old and I have to fund this adventure all by myself. Perhaps USC is an option too, it is located in socal isn't it? Thanks! |

I think we need to know your GMAT score first. If under 700, you can forget Stanford and berkeley.

UCSB has the most outrageous Halloween block parties every year. Even if you dont go there, try to make it a point to roadtrip down there if you can get a hookup on a place to crash.

Yeah, if cash is gonna be a serious issue (even with conversion from the Euro, where you're gonna kill it!), forget Stanford, Cal, USC or even FUCLA. Stick with a different UC school if you can, or a Cal State school if you must.
I'd look real hard at UC Santa Barbara if lifestyle is a big consideration for ya -- good enough school in a great location might be a nice balance for you. It's on Cali's central coast, about 1.5 hours north of LA and 4ish hours south of SF/Bay Area. Best of both worlds -- better weather than the Bay, less crowded and more green than LA. And they still rage pretty damn hard at Isla Vista... ![]() <br> |

ummm, just read Hoax's post. . . . Berkeley besides being pretty pricey, is extremely expensive for housing.
My daughter graduated from UCDavis, not too expensive, a great school, and housing is not too extreme. |

I'm stumped because really, I've never heard from GMAT before ever. I'm currently a student with the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, which is the best uni in the country and beyond for business. But it's a lonely place. I don't have any friends there and I hate going nowadays more and more. The test.. I will inform at Stanford what their requirements are. I'm still undergraduate. I can't seem to finish my bachelor here which is frustrating. |

If you want to stay in the Bay Area, San Francisco State University (my alma mater) has a fine business school. The state schools in general are easier for a foreigner to enter, and SFSU is about 45 from Hayward via BART. CSU Hayward, I don't know much about, except that we used to kick their butt at basketball.

Go to usnews.com. There is a complete list of B-school rankings and tuition, etc. Another information source is businessweek.
Use google more... BTW, UC Irvine isn't the best, I was just bragging... And it's not cheaper for foreigners. Try San Francisco State, or any other Cal State school, much cheaper than UC schools.
