Im partial to Cal-Berkeley since i'm an 1989 alumni. Berkeley has a great campus, awesome diversity of cultures and ideas, a fantastic faculty and even a pretty good greek system if thats your gig. I also liked Berkeley's location in the Bay Area with San Fran just a short BART trip away and everything from Reno to Sausalito, Santa Cruz, Napa, Yosemite etc just day trips away.

Stanford is more prestigious but also will cost you tens of thousand of dollars more for the four year degree. Their campus is really nice but I found it to be a snobby, elitist student body. Sorta like the Duke University of the West coast.

If your talking about a business graduate degree, both Stanford and the Haas B School at Berkeley at in the upper echelon of nationwide schools. Very selective and if you can get into those schools your an academic stud. The Anderson Business School at UCLA also has an outstanding reputation.
