Hayward is alright, as is Chico State (or even Cal State San Francisco, which many folks forget about). But they're all second/third tier schools.
Tier One up in Northern California is Cal and Stanford. Period. Cal will be a tiny bit cheaper, but Stanford will pay off much more extensively in terms of connections.
Of course, I'd throw all of them in the crapper and come down to Southern Cal, and the *only* choice down here is USC. The Trojan Family is stronger than any social network you could imagine...
