Lar's if you haven't already added this to your cams site I would strongly suggest this:

Have the chicks that are serious about making money, to run a 24/7 voyeur cam at their house, if they have dsl, and no kids this will be no problem. Build little mini sites for these girls, www.cams.com/chicksname . Have the girl updated the site with pictures and vidoes and a blog ( i know you love'em) so she can chat with them there. Charge $24.95 a month for access, all of her regulars and then some will pay it. For the people who like the girl but can only afford say $50 a week ppv they will jump on this too. All the people with decent money will do it, whats $25 a month to them. It will NOT take away from her PPM sales because this will be a voyeur view cam with no live chat. You will make a killin! guaranteed. Hit me up if you need more details... I dream about building a live cam site and how i would set it up, but know i will never be able to do it.

Thanks this is in the works ! Sean and i were just flushing it out more at lunchy !

wea re taking this system and making it a lot more editable by the models customizable and bloggable :)

Stop making shit sites. Then you won't have problems selling them.

Exactly, Lars idea only works if you don't have to buy content, you already have it. wellthen why do magazines and video companies that have warehouses full of content keep buying and producing more?

This idea will only work for a few who are doing it as an upsell to a bigger site. But no one has addressed the big problem and reason it will never work.

THE WAY WE COLLECT OUR PAYMENTS.

If this idea took off as mainstream we would soon find payment processors, whether you have a merchant account or not, would be setting minimum charges of around $3.00 per transaction. Then the idea is dead, you are now running a paysite, hosting and B/W on $2 a member.

And again only works if a few take it on, the controlling fact is the payment processors. This idea of cutting prices across the boards will help a few sites who survive. The will start to trawl in the surfers, put out of business a lot of the competition and reduce the cost of surfing. Which will mean less money for CCBILL, PATCOM, NETBILLING, etc. Who will then look for the reasons why and decide there numbers have not risen as the ACTUAL NUMBER of surfers have not risen to compensate for the cut in prices.

So on $60 the will probably be taking $20 of the payment.

It still applies if you have a merchant account. 5% of $30 is $1.50.

So the processors are looking at losing $1.25 a member. How long do you think they will put up with that?

This industry is very reliant on the CC processing industry. Turn their profits into a loss and you will soon find your merchant account disappear.

This industry is a million (a figure I'm using) people signing up to buy porn on a regular basis. There are some who buy it as a one off but most are repeat buyers.

Your idea will not suddenly turn that figure into 6 million people, it will increase it but not enough to cover the whole loss.

Certain companies that support us need to make a profit to continue supporting us, Visa are not doing it for the pleasure.

So all your idea will do is reduce the amount of money in the business, less for payment processors, content providers and hosting companies. How long before they decide that putting you out of business will keep them in business?

We can try a few $5 or $10 sites as promos and specials, but you are talking about an industry standard that will result most surfers signing up to a few sites. That will be quashed very quickly once CC industry realise that every sign up you make they lose money on.

The payouts to affilaites would also kill you. You are assuming that you will make more money by retaining longer and signing up more. Well the retaining longer part of the idea will hit affiliates and the traffic market.

While a member is a member of one of these sites for a year, $60 worth, he's not going to be looking for other sites to sign up to join. Hitting affiliates, TGP sites and traffic sellers. How long before they wise up that you might be putting them out of business as well.

No real money to be made on upsells either, the surfer is being educated to spending $5 a month for his porn.

For your idea to work a surfer will need to sign up to 6 sites a month, don't see that happening.

But again thanks for a great thread, it started a lot of people thinking and discussing.

I personally dont think visa gives a rats ass if we are charging $29.95 a membership or 1.95 a memberhip with our own merchant accounts. They could care less, Online porn generates what like 1% of their revenue and 50% of their headaches, they don't care if we push through less transactions, hell they would prolly prefer it. If anything lesser expensive memberships will cause less chargebacks. Not eliminate them, but it would be less chargebacks with a 1.95 membership then a 29.95 memberships.

One problem nobody mentioned is transaction fees. If you charge 1.95 the 3% or whatever visa is taking is not that big of a deal (about .05 cents) but how about that transaction fee of .30 a transaction. Thats almost .60 of you 1.95 going right away to transaction fees, thats 30% LOL. :warning :helpme not going to work.

pornstar2pac 03-03-2005 02:48 AM

wait till the , "we will pay you $5 to join our site" faze comes.

03-03-2005 03:09 AM

BastarD 03-03-2005 03:10 AM

Why on earth do you wan't to shoot yourself and everyone else in the foot. Whoever is the first to do this will ruin our industry.

Surfers are only too prepared to pay $30 or whatever for 1 month of at times unlimited content, as opposed to what is available to them in harcopy form via magazines. Pay $5 for a mag and you get maybe 40 softcore type pictures, articles and unimited ads.

If you guys go down this track you are complete dipshits that will kill the goose that laid the golden egg...... :321GFY

lol, it wont change shit, there are already tond of $10, $7 sites, etc...do you think expensive sites have less customers now? No. $5 sites will have shitty content, no idea about niche, so good sites can still be sold at $30-$35 without any problems.

Rui 03-03-2005 04:50 AM

After fees you will get peanuts for each signup...

Thanks for the idea lars. When i read this thread a while back it kinda clicked and i started stock piling content. I think this type of model for sites will really take off but was wondering how your upsells are doing? What about retention? Thanks again :thumbsup

This thread makes me sad. Charly might be dead before he has to eat his words and understand the fact that traffic is, has, and will always be king. If I have traffic, I can find SOMETHING to sell the fuckers. If I got his pile of content and no traffic, well I can jerk off until I die..... a broke old man.

Nope - There is one thing bigger than anything else

MONEY is KING, in this business and every other one

Traffic, Content, Design, whatever, take it down to the Burger King to buy a Whopper, ain't happening.

MONEY is KING of everything

For those of you who are webmasters, the $40/month price is what enables $30, $35 and $40 payouts... If the sites get cheaper all it does is shift wealth from webmasters to sponsors.
