Health Insurance

since most of GFY'ers are self-employed, I was wondering if you guys get Health Ins. from someplace like Blue Cross/Blus Sheild, Humana, etc.

Stay far far away from Blue Cross or Heath Keepers. They suck. Since Trigon teamed up with Anthem its become a huge mess. They wont pay any of your medical bills and you'll be fighting with them day and night.

The best plan I have ever found was with Sentara Optima. Great coverage, low co-pays and medicines are way cheap.

After my surgery I was prescribed Penicillin and Darvocet (I cant handle codine) I only paid a total of $8.00 for both medications. Sentara covered the rest.

I have an individual plan with Blue Cross and I have no complaints. However, it is what best fits your individual needs. Individual plans are so different from group plan packages.

I've found that personal plans suck. My fiance has Anthem blue cross and its a personal plan. Those bastards done even have a Hospitalization copay.

He had kidney stones a few months ago and was hospitalized. They dumb butt nuggets at the ER got him all drugged up and then had him sign papers. After that they took him for a catscan.. lol Why scan the brain?

Anywho...now he's stuck with an $800 bill because his insurance doesnt have a copay. They only coveer a small percent.

With my insurance I would have only paid $50

I pay quite a bit for my insurance but I also have top of the line coverage and I also have both my kids on my policy.

Every company, no matter who you go with, will personalize tings to your liking. Group policies are the best but if all you can do is a personal policy, its better then nothing.

Health insurance does not normally cover eyes nor dental unless added separately

you can get either or by themselves... but if you have a pre-existing condition.. then you are pretty much on your own..

Very true. Most policies dont include dental. However most of them give you a discount plan. Its like an 80/20. You pay 80% and they cover 20%. Its not much but they do it out of courtesy.

I use to have full coverage dental but I never needed it. I went 2 times a year to the dentist and all I needed was cleanings. Now that I need a root canal I dont have dental insurance so its gonna cost $1900. That with their discount.

My insurance coveres eye care as part of the plan but I dont even wear glasses. It aso covers massage therapy, mental health (lord knows I probably need that after dealing with some of you lol) medical and a few other things I cant remember.

Its good to shop around.

If you contact your State Insurance commision they have negotiated rates with major insurance companies.

Its a hell of a lot cheaper than if you called them yourself.

So like i say contact the state insurance commision where u live.

P.S
I work part time just to maintain my health ins, life ins, dental and vision. along with my retirement and paid vacation and lots of other benefits, even though i dont need to work there.

Cost me $96 a month for the family health ins. plan

Yeah that would be a problem for me. I have pre existing. I constantly have to go for biopsy's and check ups every three months. I pay $400 a month for me and the 2 kids but its great coverage. I cant complain.

not bad.

mr meds are a lot cheaper though. Last time I picked up meds, I paid $8.00. That was for penicillian and Vicoden.

My ER copay is also $50
Dr visits are $10 but only if I have to see the doctor. A lot of the time i go there for my Birth Control shot. Then it doesnt cost me anything.

Im fully covered for major medical as well as the other goodies I mentioned earlier. I really do like my coverage, but it is way expensive. That tends to be a downer.

I have BCBS PPO, have had it for years, and I wouldn't have anything else.

ALL my claims are paid immediately, the doctors have contracts with BCBS where they can't charge me for any "overages", and I've not yet found a provider that I wanted to use that isn't on their list.

I pay $282 a month, $1000 deductible, $20 Dr. visits, $15 generic/$25 name brand prescrips. No, it's not cheap, but since I take about $300 worth of Imitrex a month, I do OK.

You get what you pay for with insurance - home, car, health, etc.

I have the best health insurance in the world - Capital District Blue Cross (PA), but it costs me a whopping $1200 a month for my family, and thats a small group as I have employees.

Blue Cross is like a franchise - every state is independent. SOme are near insolvent and some (like here) are doing OK.

The whole insurance thing sucks. The system is so fucked up its unbelievable.

That's because those of us who CAN pay (via personal funds and/or health insurance) are paying the bills for those who can't/won't pay. I was reading an article the other day that said 68% of people seen in the hospital and doctor's office don't have a way to pay for the bill. Ergo, the providers have to raise the rates to those who CAN pay, which is mostly insurance companies. When the costs to the insurance companies goes up, then our rates go up.

I don't have any, but my wife does. Blue Cross Georgia....she had surgery a while back and it cost $2200 out of the total $10000 for surgery....and she never pays more than $10-15 for prescriptions

i think she pays like $150 a month, but she has a heart condition, so it is higher. Mine would be like $102 a month or something
