Tragic indeed...
Don't know enough aout the dog, the dog's owner, etc... I don't, however, see this as being any different than somebody not watching their child and having him fall into a pool and drowning or geting run over. The fact the the dog was a Pitbull is sensationalism and as doesn't really have a any bearing on the story at all. |

Abused, poorly socialized, dogs of any breed will be dangerous.
The story itself states that the dog was kept CHAINED UP in the backyard. I hope the owner himself gets chained up. |

Pits can be nasty, I have owned two and been around those who raise them. The one i took in my home was a animal death machine but sweet as hell to humans.
We know that animals will attack when people show fear or the animal senses fear...I think alot of people see pits and immediately feel fear, which of course the dog will sense this and possibly attack. It's not the animlals fault, its not the childs fault... mom should have searched that neighborhood when she noticed her child missing....he might be alive still. ![]() |

I am a father, and the thing that pisses me off about this story is that the mother reported the kid missing after 2 hours! WTF, was she doing in the two hours, fuck the bitch for not taking care of the boy! Any kid under the age of 7 or 8 should always be supervised by an adult.

My boys are now ages 13 and 14 years old and I know exactly whats going on in their lives. That's why I work from home. Its amazing these parents let a small child like that wonder off and not report them missing. Its fricking shocking to me. In this case its very sad and I mean very sad for the child but, where were the parents ??????? Lets find a scape goat I guess that would be the dog. ![]() |

Still we are led to believe that the dog was indeed a Pitbull. A few years ago I requestioned the CDC's report on dog bites and the vast majority of dogs initially identified as Pitbulls were not actually Pitbulls at all. Even if the dog was a Pitbull does that relieve the parents responsibility for keeping an eye on their child. If the dog was a Dalmation, Chow, (both resposnsible for an inordinate number or attcks on children) or some other breed would the story have made the paper? Unfortunately, I would think not. |

too much land to fence in? I still have mixed feelings about breeding dogs this way. or do you keep them for hunting? IMHO if you cannot spend the $$$ on proper fencing & kenneling, I would just keep fewer dogs. assuming you spend a lot of time with the dogs, putting them on a 50-100ft chain at other times may be ok. I don't know you; so it's hard to judge the situation. Regardless, chained up dogs in urban areas don't do so well. They are usually just chained up on short leads and forgotten; left to 'gaurd' the masters stash / used car parts lot. Or worse, multiple dogs are chained up barely out of reach of eachother and left to build up aggression. I think all dogs deserve to live inside with their family, and are less inclined to develop antisocial behavior that way. Quote:
agreed. Most people are not familiar with all the different breeds; (including police and shelter staff and reporters) so american bulldogs, bullterriers, staffordshire terriers, argentino dogos, boxers, mastiffs, bullmastiffs, short haired labs, and most mutts end up being called "pitbulls" in the event of a bite. It make a better headline. Quote:
people emotional (and encourages ghetto fucktards to pick this breed); despite the fact that this animal is very medium sized dog and one of the people-friendlier breeds by nature. (historically, when they were used to fight eachother, people had to be able to step into the ring and break it up without the dogs turning on them) And no, they don't have "locking jaws" either. They are anatomically like all other dogs. They are not crocodiles. Do you think tens of thousands of people would keep them as family pets if they were really evil/dangerous? Quote:
Quote:
If it bites someone; charge the owner with assault. If it kills someone; charge the owner with manslaughter. Watch those Animal Cops shows; people usually get away with horrendous abuse, or only get a fine, or maybe 30 days in jail. They think they can get away with it; and they usually do. But even the worst abused dogs are, more often than not, loving and gentle to the shelter staff who rescued them. It's really sad the the ghettoization of america is now affecting other species. Sader still that local governments are being encouraged by an ignorant public to punish whole breeds instead of the individuals responsible. A dogs breed/appearance is no indicator of its personality. People calling for genocide of any breed are just misinformed bigots. |

It's the parent fault ,people are overlooking and flaming the breed. what if the child wandered in the street and was hit by a car , or abducted by someone, or fell and injured himself .and all dogs have teeth be it a pit or a poodle I see vicious labradors every day walking my dogs.

fucking ignorant assholes usually blame the dog. The investigation is still on. Yea, ok, the fucking mother somehow let her 3 years old kid wander to a neighbor's yard w/ a chained dog. For all we know, the bitch killed her kid, and place the body there. I had a pitbull, and beside hating other dogs, it's the friendliest around. This dog could be an Amstaff, and Apbt, a American bulldog, a mix, a mutt, but a pitbull isn't a breed.
Fucking media bias bullshit. ![]() |

a lot of the nature of a dog is in the breeding and the bloodline. It isn't just dogs like pit bulls that are traditionally thought of as as likely to bite.
For example, a few years back there was a lot made in the show dog world ( my mom's side of the family does that kind of thing) about the way Cocker Spaniels were being bred. The breeders were focusing on the body shape, etc and not temperament and handlers were noticing an increase in aggressive puppies. So, their particular kennel association made an effort to reverse things. Same deal with rotties..they are being actively bred with friendlier temperaments but it only takes one breeder to produce a long bloodline of nasty animals. |

breeders are about the worst thing to ever happen to dogs, it's a completely corrupt industry mostly ran by tattoed meth addicts and should be abolished.

My big question is WTF did they shoot the dog for? It was on its own property, and chained up. I understand that they had to get to the kid, but that is what owners or tranquelizers are for. It would be different if the dog was loose but it was in its yard, on a chain. Dumb fucking cops.. They would be facing a hell of a lawsuit if it was my dog. |

Nope, my numbers weren't right, but it is interesting to note on the numbers I am looking at that you are almost as likely to be bitten by a german shepard as a pit bull, but no one screams about them being mean.

It's not the breed, it's how it's raised.
It's not even the animal, it's how it's raised. I've known pits that I wouldn't get within 10 feet of and I've known ones that I'd lay a newborn baby next to. I've raised "vicious" animals - foxes, raccoons, prairie dog (sure she's small but she can take off a finger with one bite)... german shepherds, all kinds of animals. Pure sweethearts, all of them. It's not the animal, it's how you raise it. C_U_Next_Tuesday... I have a 5yr old and a 3yr old, both boys. When they go down for their "quiet time" (nap or just play quietly) in the middle of the day, I'm on the couch too. Hell, I sleep more on the couch at night than I do in my bed. 99% of the time I sleep on my couch. I am a *little* more comfortable in this house than in my others - we did the "lock at the top of the door out of reach" thing and I was still worried (with good cause too, kidlet learned how to climb on a chair), we'd put things in front of the door, etc. etc. With this house the one door is locked from both the inside AND the outside (fire hazard I know but we've got windows to go out of) and the other door is nearly impossible for *me* to open because of the weird seal it has, the kids pulling together can't open it. (Yes, I've had them test it.) So I feel a bit better knowing that they can't get out of this house. Even still, my ass is on the couch. *sigh* The real question here is why it took the mom 2 hours to call the police. Evidently she didn't bother to go outside looking for him herself, or she would've seen him in the neighbor's backyard. There's something VERY fishy going on there. Drugs, a boyfriend midday fuck going on, something. That poor Dad. My heart is absolutely breaking for him. |
