Pits can be nasty, I have owned two and been around those who raise them. The one i took in my home was a animal death machine but sweet as hell to humans.
We know that animals will attack when people show fear or the animal senses fear...I think alot of people see pits and immediately feel fear, which of course the dog will sense this and possibly attack.
It's not the animlals fault, its not the childs fault... mom should have searched that neighborhood when she noticed her child missing....he might be alive still.
